Alexis laughed. Alexis looked at the strange woman in front of her like she was an escapee from a mental hospital. " Lord. I mean, most of the things you have told me have been crazy, but this is just ludicrous." Alexis continued to laugh. Edma's face turned to its usual stony demeanor. "I find it a bit strange for you to call my other testaments crazy when you are the one in the position of laughing about the revelation that your father isn't your father." Edma remarked.
" Edma, honestly. You made me laugh, and I haven't laughed in years. My father isn't my father? Like I would believe that." Alexis's face returned to its former passive expression.
" You're in denial." Edma observed matter - of -factly.
" For me to be in denial, the fact I am hearing has to be true. So denial isn't the case in this scenario." Alexis regarded her coldly.
" Sweetheart, that isn't even all."Edma told Alexis. " But let's leave the world changing discoveries for later. I have to admit you within a few hours, or we will both be in a lot of trouble."
Edma gestured for Alexis to follow her. " No way. You're a stranger. I am not following a stranger." Alexis backed away. Edma rolled her eyes dramatically. " Truly, you have no option. It's either the simple way or the hard way. I have abilities too, you know."
" I do know." Alexis snapped. She looked at the woman, trying to make a decision. But even she knew it was useless. Alexis made a show of rolling her eyes though, for the sake of her pride. "Whatever. But I swear if you try to kill me I won't make it easy on you." Alexis warned. Edma ignored her and started to walk. Alexis crossed her arms, but she did it lightly since she still hadn't completely recovered after her popped shoulder.
And thus began their journey through the suburban woods near her school. Alexis followed Edma mindlessly, unconcerned for anything except the prison of her thoughts. Finally, after the drawing silence had settled around them, Alexis asked the question that had been pondering her mind. "How did you know where to find me?"
" Oh, it was easy. Some of our magic detectors sensed magic from an unregistered person here, so we followed." Edma said, hopping through the woods because they had now reached the muddy ground. Alexis looked down at her shoes, now covered in chunky, brown, wet, dirt. " Are we coming back?" she asked. " Well, we will need to pick up your stuff." Edma told her. " Pick up my stuff.... God! My dad! He is going to be so worried about me!" Alexis jumped in alarm.
" Not your father," Alexis scoffed," But he will be worried. Don't worry, the story for why you are gone for ten months has already been prepared." Alexis's eyebrows rose.
" Oh, so I will be gone for ten months? Where exactly am I going to be?"
" School."
" School? But I just burned down my school." Alexis wondered if the woman had a very good memory.
" Not a no- magic school. Since your powers have finally appeared, our world can't risk a powerful person who can burn with thoughts to go to a regular person school. It would be instant exposure." Edma shuddered.
" So I will be going to a magic school? No thanks." Alexis continued to walk in the mud. " You don't really have a choice. Every somewhat tame registered supernatural in our world is required to go to a school to teach you how to harness powers. We have locations all over the world, but the school you will be attending is 'Chariot Academy for the Supernatural and Paranormal'." Edma told her.
"I'm sorry, but I can't go to school. It would be best for people in general to stay away from me. Did you see what I did to my school? And that was all because someone was ripping up my book." Alexis shook her head sadly. " Wow, you have serious anger management issues." Edma remarked tactlessly. " I don't" Alexis corrected, but she left it at that.
