Chapter 13: Changing

*Hopes point of view* 

2 years later...

It's been about two years now. Me and Alex are going strong, we have had a few fights. But we always fight through them. Now that he has graduated he moved into his own place and followed his own dream. He told his dad that he was not working for him and he is going to college for business and publishing. My mom has remarried to a really nice man. I even started calling him dad. Mom filed charges against Elijah, and we went through a lengthy process with that. I had to testify to everything and so did mom. We had to take some time for ourselves due to the trauma. But luckily my mom met my new step dad who just swept her off her feet. No literally mom was about to slip and he caught her. After that day they flirted and eventually got together. The trial was finally over and Elijah was found guilty on child neglect, child endangerment, along with child abuse. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison without bond, and prohibition would be determined at a later date. Once the hearing was over James (moms new hubby) proposed right there in the courthouse parking lot.

James is so sweet and nice, he is a police officer. He has two kids of his own ( Jackson who is 3, Saraha who is 9) they treat me as if I was one of their own siblings/ daughter. His wife passed away suddenly due to complications during childbirth. Mom has pretty much adopted them. Saraha even calls her momma even though Saraha knows that she isn't really her mom. I'm just glad mom is happy and this is a win for everyone. James has done everything a real father should for me. He is like the dad I never got to have. He understands why I call him dad instead of Daddy like the others do. He told me he never wasn't to take my real fathers place, but rather be there when he couldn't be.

Alex had moved away, but we are still together. We talk every chance we get. It's been rough without him.

Victoria has moved on to picking on new freshmen and has left me alone. I made some new friends. Life has been going really well mostly. Alex was trying to come home for Christmas, but his flight got canceled and that made me really sad.

But one thing I realized about the distance is that the struggle is worth it. He is my rock, my safe place. Life before him sucked, but if he wasn't in my life it would be devastating. Everything in my life is going pretty good. I have applied to Alex's college and got accepted! He doesn't know yet. I plan on telling him after graduation (which is today) that's right my graduation is today and I am so excited and ready for it.
