Nick watched Lindsay sit on the edge of his bathtub with her hand under the stream of water as she filled it. He wished he had one of those oversized tubs, but he wasn't much of a bath guy. Tonight he would be for her. He suspected he'd do anything for her.
He gravitated toward her and stroked her hair. She meant too much to him in far too short a time, but he was in too deep. Lindsay leaned her head on his hip and purred. The uncertain girl who stumbled into his life less than a month before had embraced her passionate side.
It was like watching a new butterfly spread its wings for the first time, or a carefully cultivated rose unfurling its petals to the morning sun on the first day of summer. He needed to write that down.
His fingers stilled until she nuzzled his side. Nick rubbed her scalp until she relaxed against him. Lindsay pulled away and the water stopped. "Ready," she said smiling at him.
So was he. To fuck her pretty little mouth again. "Who gets in first?"
"You first. I'll sit between your thighs."
Nick dipped a toe in. Not too hot. He climbed in and leaned back. She followed and leaned her back against his chest. His eyes traveled over her breasts, belly, and knees. Not a bad view. He kissed the back of her head.
She leaned against him with a sigh.
"Happy?" he asked, massaging her shoulders. Nick wanted to grope her, but he needed to show her he wanted more than only sex. He liked her, he liked spending time with her. The sex was a bonus. An amazing bonus.
"Mmm, yes. You can push harder." He pressed into her muscle and she purred.
Should he ask why she disappeared for four days? What about their last conversation triggered her fears? "I worried I pressured you into coming here tonight."
"I fully consented. But you wanted to talk before." Lindsay waved her hands.
Now she wanted to talk? The time for talk had long passed. He wanted to talk at the park over an hour ago. Now, he wasn't willing to ruin their bliss. "Want? Yes. Will? No. Not tonight, tonight was perfect. I don't want to ruin it with talking except to discuss our little barbecue tomorrow."
"I almost forgot the dinner party."
"Dinner party?"
"Yes, a gathering around evening meal, that's a dinner party."
Nick laughed. "Okay, dinner party. I have burgers and buns and such. Probably need to buy a case of beer. Alex might have a case."
"Do you have side dishes and dessert planned?"
"What do you mean?" This is why he didn't host dinner parties.
"We need a salad. And dessert."
"Tammy is in charge of those."
"I'm not hosting and asking our guests to bring everything." She twisted around to glare at him.
Our guests? He liked that. "All right, what do you need? Maybe I have it."
"Salad stuff, duh."
"I have lettuce. Mrs. Murphy next door will give me a tomato and cucumber. She loves me and she has a huge garden."
"I probably can ask Mom to make a dessert, or make it there."
"Tammy will want to bring something."
"We need chips and pop, but I guess we can get that at Peters' store."
"The Peters sold it a few years ago. Ollie Penton and his wife run it now."
