You and Gohin walk through the Black Alley Market. Gohin had led you to what looked like a weapons section of the Market.
"Um...why are we here?" You asked the panda. "If we want to get me a weapon, shouldn't we get one that's...you know, legal?"
He laughed.
"In these situations, it's easier to just fight fire with fire." He said. "Remind me, you know how to use a bo staff, correct?"
You nod. He grins and gestures to a few small metal cylinders on one of the tables.
"Take your pick. These should all be tall enough." He says. You stare at the tiny metal things, confused. You look back up at him.
"Sorry...what?" You ask, tilting your head and drooping an ear. He bursts out laughing.
"I forgot you've never seen the retractables!" He laughs. You glance back at the cylinders.
"Retractable?" You ask, starting to catch on a little.
"Yeah, retractable." Gohin responds. He slams a hand on the table. "And these ones are platinum."
Your eyes go wide and you look back at the bo staffs. Gohin tosses one to you, and you catch it.
Observing it, you notice it's shaped almost like a pipe, rather than a cylinder. It's also coiled—like a spring. There's a small button on the side, as well, and you can't help but notice an intricate design along the metal.
"Well?" The panda asks. You look back up at him, and notice his arms are folded now. "Give it a try."
"I..." You begin, observing it again. "I don't know how to...un-retract it."
He sighs and makes a motion with his hand, closing his fist and moving his thumb like he was pushing a button.
"Oh." You say.
You position the device so the button is underneath your thumb, and the flat ends are facing away from your palm and fingers.
When you pressed the small button, the ends shot out. You gasped—it had happened so fast. You sort of waved the staff a bit. Woah, it was surprisingly light. You smiled, then swing it around a bit more, trying out some tricks with it.
"This is impressive." You say, swinging it around one more time, grabbing it, then ending the spasm of twirls with a jab—the end gleamed.
"Is that..." You squinted your eyes to look at the tip.
It was coiled so the staff ended in a sudden point. Like a spear.
Checking the other end, you confirmed that you had a double-edged spear AND a bo staff.
"Wow." You say, pressing the small button again and returning the weapon to it's compressed form. "This would be ridiculously useful in fights as a surprise attack."
"You want it or not?" Gohin said. You glanced back up at him and chuckled nervously.
"Sorry. It's just cool." You say. Gohin sighs and shakes his head.
"You and Legosi really are perfect for each other." Gohin said. You blushed a deep red. "Just answer my question."
You looked back down at it. You took a closer look at the design carved into the metal.
It was intricately carved into cherry blossom branches, with each blossom and piece of bark created with care. You could see every wrinkle in a single blossom if you looked close enough. The ridges of the carving itself was dyed with some sort of faux rose-gold color—it contrasted with the cold silver of the rest of the staff. You liked that.
