I'm dreaming about my friends back in New York before I'm interrupted by my mom shaking me awake and bringing me back to reality, and back to Avonlea.
"Get up, Y/n!" She says, "Its your first day of school and you dont want to make a bad impression by being late."

I groan into my pillow and sit up, "Okay, Okay..."
My mom leaves my room as I get fully out of bed and start picking out my outfit.
I decide on a bright blue dress that I love and wear all the time, partly because it's pretty, and mostly because it has big pockets I can stash food in.

After I finish brushing my hair I pick my schoolbooks up of of my desk and walk down to the kitchen to eat breakfast.
Mom's standing the stove moving pancakes off of the pan and onto a platter, they smell really good and I feel slightly more awake.
"Thanks for cooking mom." I say, as I take the platter and put it on the table.
"No problem," She says, untying her apron and hanging it on a hook in the wall, "Now, I have to get going to work, I'll be back around the time you get home from school"
"Okay."
My mom works as a caregiver to the elderly, she hasn't had many jobs besides this one guy that lives a little outside of town, but he pays pretty well.

I stand up and give her a kiss on the cheek and a hug.
"Have a good day at school sweetie."
"Thanks mom, you too."
I watch her walk out and close the door behind her when the wagon is out of my sight.

After I finish eating I put my lunch together and walk out the door, more nervous about school than I thought I'd be.

It's pretty nice out compared to the last few days only slightly windy and the clouds don't seem that dark, but they still look dark enough to get me sopping wet, so I hurry along the path leading away from my house and into the forest.

I've gotten halfway down the path, and its started to rain slightly, but I'm not worried, I'm almost there.
By the time I've gotten out of the forest I can already see the roof of the school house.
Now I can hear voices and people laughing.
My heart is beating fast, What if people don't like me?

My mind is racing almost as fast as my heart as I walk up the path to the school.
I keep looking forward as I feel people staring and whispering amongst their friends. It doesn't matter what other people think

"Hey!" Somone calls out to me, I turn around and see a freckled redhead with braids running up to me.
"Hi." I say to her, "I'm Y/n Y/l/n."
"Nice to meet you!" The girl says, sticking out her hand for me to shake, "I'm Anne Shirley-Cuthbert."
"Nice to meet you Anne." I say, smiling at her.
"Come on," She says, leading me over to a stream where some other girls are talking, "You can put your milk in the stream to keep it cold."

Nervously, I follow Anne over to the other girls.
"Guys, this is Y/n Y/l/n," Anne says, "Y/n, this is Ruby Gillis, Diana Berry, Josie Pye, Tillie Boultler, and Jane Andrews."
"Hi." I say shyly, "It's really nice to meet you all."

The rest of the girls and I chat for a little while before the bell interrupts us.
We're almost inside when Tille turns around "Did you forget to put your milk in the stream?" She asks.
"Oh!" I say, tuning back to get it, "Thanks Tillie!"

I walk to the side of the school house where all the lunch pails are lined up against the wall.
I take my bottle of milk out of my pail and place it in the stream next to a big rock so I rember where it is.

I turn around and start running back to school.
I look down at the groud just in time to see myself step on my shoelace and trip right into someone, knocking the both of us over
No no no no no
