"Hey, did you see the morning news?"kunikida asked as he barged into the room.
"It's on the tv, too." Dazai said.
"Please see for yourself. A seven-story building has vanished overnight. According to one source, the building housed a front company for the Port Mafia. It was allegedly used as an office by their agents." The news anchor said.
"So this is there message."
"Kenji-kun hasn't been back to the dorm since seeing them off." Junichiro explained.
"So they'll annihilate anyone who opposes them, be they the Port Mafia or the Agency." Dazai muttered.
"Tanizaki, from now on, you're prohibited from working alone. Look for Kenji with Atsushi. Dazai, you're with me. We need to meet the president. We don't know what kind of gifts they possess. If you make contact with the enemy, don't engage them. Run." Kunikida said
"Okay." Atsushi agreed.
All four boys soon left. Naomi going along with Atsushi and Tanizaki. So for the next hour or so, Misaki sat at her desk doing the work she was assigned. But she began to get bored after a while. She laid her head on her desk and looked at the picture of Odasaku and her. She loved that photo, how awkward the two looked. But it was the only photo the two ever had together. She wished there was more.
But the photo was also a reminder of there last few days together. Those were some of the worst days.
Misaki suddenly felt a small tap on her shoulder. She sat back up and turned around. Kyouka stood behind her awkwardly, the same expression as always. "Hi, Kyouka." Misaki greeted. "Is there anything you need?"
"I wasn't assigned any work yet. I don't know what to do." She said.
"I see." Misaki looked up at the clock. It had been quite a while since Atsushi and Tanizaki left, along with Naomi. She turned back to Kyouka and spotted her looking over at Atsushi's desk.
Misaki smiled at her. It had randomly crossed Misaki's mind that she was basically Kyouka's age when she first met Chuuya. When she had fallen for him. Kyouka was clearly worried about Atsushi. After all, the three shouldn't have been gone this long.
Misaki stood up from the chair and put in her jacket. "Let's go." Misaki said.
Kyouka looked at her confused. "Where are we going?" She asked.
"You're clearly worried about Atsushi. Let's go check on him." Misaki suggested as she put her hood on. Kyouka nodded her head, and followed along.
~
Misaki expected this to be pretty quick. But along the way Koyouka was suddenly interested in everything she saw along the way. From food, to toys, to smaller and simpler things like paper with cute designs.
Misaki didn't mind though. She loved how easily entertained Kyouka was. She had clearly been badly abused by the Port Mafia that she didn't even remember how to function as a teen.
It was the same for Misaki. The Mafia had abused her for so long, she didn't know how to function as a person. And even after she left, it was still a struggle for her. She was glad to see that Kyouka was happy.
"Can I ask you something?"
Misaki looked back at the girl. "Sure." She responded.
"There a photo of a man on your desks, who is that?" Kyouka asked.
Misaki sighed. "He was someone who raised me. I guess like an older brother to me." Misaki answered. "I never experience a childhood when growing up. What I went through was hell. But he saved me. He convince me that the world wasn't such a bad place. And that there was some good. He convinced me to keep living."
"What happened to him?" Kyouka asked.
Misaki's face saddened. "I lost him. I wasn't able to save him. And even when I found him, he didn't want saving. All he wanted was for me to escape the place I was living. And after all those years of him raising me, that was least I could do for him." Misaki explained. It always made her feel sad when she though of this. But she felt relieved talking to Kyouka about it.
"Why do you ask?"
Kyouka looked down at the floor. "In the Port Mafia, someone had a sailor picture of the same man. They just look so much alike." She explained.
"Is that so." Misaki said awkwardly. She knew who she meant. Only Chuuya would. The memories of Chuuya still hurt. They always did. And she couldn't let go of them. But it would soon come to the point that she would have to let go.
There was suddenly a large crowd up ahead. It was odd, as they appeared just so suddenly. "What the?"
"It's Atsushi." Kyouka called out as she started running over to him.
Misaki couldn't help but smile. The relationship the two had was similar to the one her and Odasaku had.
I'm the corner of her eyes, Misaki could see a figure of someone watching her through the dark alleyway. But just as she looked over, they had turned around and left the other way.
But why did it look so much like Chuuya. Slowly, she took a few steps towards the alleyway. Her breathing getting heavier the closer she got.
She stopped. There was a good chance that it wasn't even Chuuya. But either way, whoever that was wasn't her focus. She turned back around and walked in the other direction. But she soon regretted it when she saw a familiar face.
She could see the terrified look plastered over Kyouka's face. She ran over and pulled Kyouka back. But of course, Mori still had more to say.
"Boy, a logical optimal solution exist in any wartime situation, no matter how difficult the challenge. You must not forget that, especially in times of confusion when you might feel inclined or reckless." Mori said to the boy.
"Okay." Atsushi responded with a smile.
"Goodbye, then." Mori waved off, sending an evil grin towards Misaki.
Misaki glared at the man. The sudden memories of what he put her through came back. And though she looked angry on the outside, she was terrified.
Atsushi looked over and saw the anger in Misaki's eyes. "What are you doing here? Are you okay?" He asked.
Kyouka suddenly grabbed his arm. "Huh, what's wrong Kyouka-chan?" He asked. "Kyouka-chan?"
She fell to the floor, shaking in fear. Misaki had never seen the girl look so terrified. Misaki leaned down and patted the girl on the head. "Let's take her back to the Agency. It's not safe having her out here at a time like this." Misaki said in a serious tone. But the other could hear the anger in her voice.
"Is something wrong?" Tanizaki asked.
"Let's worry about this later. Just get Kyouka out of her." Misaki demanded.
"Got it."
Kyouka looked up at her. Though Misaki was putting on a brave face, she couldn't be more terrified. "Misaki." She muttered.
"You'll be fine." Misaki assured.
~
Though he could see her face to well, since the hood was blocking, he knew it was her. No doubt about it. He desperately wanted to run over and hug her. To kiss her. To hold her. To hear her voice. But he couldn't.
After she had left to go look for Kyouka, Chuuya hopped to the roof and looked over the group. The other might not have been able to see it, but he could see just how terrified she was.
He so badly want to comfort her. But he couldn't. He were to never have any contact with her again if he wanted to stay alive. But even after four years, he was still hoping for some interaction. For some sign.
He missed her. She missed him. But what could they do?
Nothing.
