Laugh To Keep From Crying (Marauders Era)

Chapter Six

"A new baby? Merlin, the Weasleys never slow down, do they?" Sirius commented, causing Jaycee to scowl.

"Come off it, Sirius. You would be happy to have that many children with your wife as well." She retorted, and he snorted slightly.

"No, I wouldn't, because I'm not getting married. I'm happy with the way I'm living my life now." He replied, and she laughed.

"You'll catch an STD or a child before you find a steady girlfriend at this rate, Black." She commented, causing James, Remus, and Peter to laugh.

       Over the two years Jaycee had known the Marauders, they had become quite close. With their closeness meant she knew about Remus's "furry little problem," she knew about Sirius' asshole parents, she knew about James' small crush on Regulus Black--which she had been the only one he told and she kept it a secret so everyone believed he was more in love with Lily--and she knew about Peter's unstable home environment, since he no longer had a father and his mother was always needing him around.

       Like the Marauders, Jaycee had chosen to turn into an animagus to help Remus during the full moons. Her animagus form was a white jaguar, which was the same as her patronus. Sirius always gloated about his animagus form until he seen Jaycee's, then his ego was a little bruised. James, Sirius, and Peter were thankful to have another person to help keep Moony in check during the full moons, even if it wasn't easy for any of them.

"There's a Halloween party in the Gryffindor common room tomorrow night. You're going, right?" Sirius asked, looking over at Jaycee.

"I'm not sure. I may spend the night wrapping my little brothers' birthday gifts, or start wrapping all of the Christmas gifts I've stocked up on." Jaycee replied, causing Sirius to scowl.

"Take a day off and have some fun, JJ. The presents will still be there the day after the party." Sirius replied, using her nickname he had picked when she first turned into an animagus.

      Since her name was Jaycee and her animagus was a white jaguar, the two went together to make the name Jaguar Jaycee, or JJ.

"I guess. Are we having to dress up?" She asked, taking a bite of her buttered roll.

"Yes! Of course! What kind of Halloween party would it be if we didn't dress up?!" James exclaimed, causing the girl to scowl.

"Maybe I didn't feel like dressing up." She commented, and the boy snorted.

"You don't get a choice, JJ. You're still dressing up, and so is my Lily-Flower." He replied, and she simply laughed at the messy haired boy.

"What are you going to dress up as?" Remus asked, causing the girl to shrug.

"I'm not sure. I'll have Marlene and Lily help me choose tomorrow. What are you guys going as?" She asked, and the boys grinned.

"I'm going as a rockstar." Sirius said, and she nodded.

"So like, Zepplin, Aerosmith, ACDC, Pink Floyd, Journey, and bands like that, right?" She asked, and he nodded.

"Yeah, are you a fan?" He asked, and she grinned.

"Of course!" She exclaimed, and he laughed.

"Oh, I'm trying to get James to go as a rockstar as well, but he's trying to match his precious, Lily-Flower." Sirius commented, as James simply glared at him.

"Well, you want J--" James began, before Remus cut him off.

"Let's not argue, and to continue our conversation, I'm going as a wolf. I know, unoriginal, but I'm not trying to hard this year." He said, and she smiled.

"How about you go as a serial killer or something? Ya know, like Jack the Ripper, or Ted Bundy?" She commented, and he bit his lip.

"Sounds like a good idea--" He began, before she cut him off.

"Great! Padfoot and Prongs will help you look perfect, won't you boys?" She commented, glaring at them, causing them to nod quickly.

       They knew better than to piss of Jaycee, since when they had been in fourth year, they tried to prank her. They ended up making her angry, which wasn't a good idea. Even though she didn't know her birth parents too well, she did have their anger and it was quite evident when the boys had pissed her off.

"What about you, Peter?" She asked, looking down at the mousy boy.

"He's going as Michael Jackson. We finally got him to agree on something other than trying to be John Lennon every year." Sirius commented, as Peter simply nodded while eating his food.

"I will try and find an outfit that can go with Lily, but don't be surprised if you're dressed like Bonnie and Clyde." Jaycee said, as James simply grinned and hugged the girl tightly.

"This is why I love you, JJ. You're simply amazing. The best sister ever." He gushed, and she laughed.

"I'm not even your sister, Prongs." She replied, as he left a sloppy kiss on her cheek.

"You have been my sister ever since you started helping me try to win over Evans. Besides, you know all my secrets, so you'll be my sister until one of us dies, even past death, since I forbade you from telling anyone my secrets." James stated, as Jaycee smiled.

"Quit kissing my--uh, our JJ. She's not only yours, Prongs." Sirius joked, trying to play off his little slip up, though everyone had caught it, except for Jaycee.

       Jaycee was oblivious to Sirius' obvious crush, as she was also oblivious to her own crush on Sirius. She liked the boy, but she didn't want anyone to know, so she tried to make herself believe the crush was fake. She tried to find a different boy to have a crush on, just to keep herself from crushing on Sirius, though the plan hadn't seemed to be working very well. Sirius and James seemed to always scare off her boyfriends, which she found ridiculous. If it wasn't for them, she'd probably have a great relationship, but she was thankful for the boys, even if they were a pain to deal with sometimes...
