But as i sit and wait and fear

and watch the hours go-

Everything that happened here
happened long ago.

All I want is nothing more,
to hear you knocking at my door

Fuyumi remembers waiting by the door every evening for her parents to come home. Her pro-hero dad and firefighter mom still decked in their suit, beaming at them as they crossed the threshold. Now, she walked by the entrance and is hit by how grand and spacious it was. Something she never noticed before. It was always so crowded, you see; with Touya-nii on the front, talking their ears off about training, Natsuo behind her like a tail and dad would take out a paperbag filled with taiyaki, a fish-shaped cake with red bean filling.

Dad would then pull them kids in a tight hug that made her elder brother groan in annoyance, and her little brother squeal in delight. You would roll your eyes when Enji asks who's the favorite parent between you and him.

Did you know how utterly in love dad looks at you despite teasing you? That although Fuyumi wonders why she never caught you and dad saying 'iloveyous' to each other, she never doubted it?

If you knew, then you should know how miserable everyone is with you gone. And maybe now she hates you a teeny, tiny bit because you're not waking up and all she wants is for everything to go back the way it did before.

You don't know how every night she couldn't fall asleep without crying. That in the darkness of her room, she keeps her sobs down and her throat ached so much. That she prayed so so hard, for you to open your eyes. You probably didn't know that she learned how to hate Kami, that she stopped believing in things like heaven.

When four months passed without signs of you waking up, dad drank alot of sake, cursed the wind and burned more than half of the garden you loved so much.

If you saw how everyone's doing, there's no way you'd go on sleeping. Touya-nii stopped training his quirk. Surprise. It shocked her too. He still trains but only physical combat. Natsuo is angry all the time. And dad's a miser. Everyone's a mess. So, c'mon mom, won't you wake up soon?
---

So you brought out the best in me

Everything makes Natsuo mad. Like the stupid housekeeper trying to make him eat. And if you asked him why he was mad, he'd answer, "because you left me." You're not waking up so that means you left him. How could you? He needed his mom back.

Truth was, he wasn't just mad at you. He's mad and scared. Because the first week you were gone he mistakenly called Aunt Rei 'mom'. Worse, it still goes on. Sometimes it slips and he feels like a traitor. He's scared that one day, when he thinks of the word 'mom', it'll be Aunt Rei's face overlapping yours.

He's scared because he forgot how you sound like.

So all he has right now is this twisting anger in the pit of his tummy. And he punishes Aunt Rei for his fears. He kicked and screamed whenever she was near. There's no way he'll let anyone replace you in his heart.

He's also scared because there were no picnics anymore. Or dinners by the engawa, moon gazing while they ran around the garden while you and dad sat on the wooden floor, whispering to each other.
