KANRA

I sat in the hospital, waiting for the doctor to come back out. Guilt rushed through me as my thoughts took over

It's your fault...... It should be you in there..... He doesn't deserve this..... How could you.....

It was becoming too much. Soon, only a name echoed through my head, bouncing off my head and impailing my heart with pain and regret.

Eridan....

*Flash back*

"Hey kiddo, you ok on your own for about half an hour?" Eridan asked, grabbing his purple hoodie an pulling it on his arms. I nodded.

"Where you going?" I ask, looking over my book.

"Wal-mart, we're outta food." He said, looking around, perplexed. "Uh, have you seen my keys?"

I tossed him the key ring and added "Bring me back a pepsi!" He laughed a bit.

"Keep your phone on! I might get delayed or something." The door closed and I went back to my book.

About 15 minutes later, I got a text.

Eridan: Hey, I'll be back soon, is the place still standing?

Kanra: More or less, u get my soda?

Eridan: Yeah, I got it.

Kanra: Cool, c u soon bro :)

Kanra: Love u

No reply.

I didn't think much of it, until I saw that it had been almost 2 hours since he left. It was getting late and it had started pouring outside.

"Eridan, where are you?" I muttered. Sure, He was always a bit late, but never by this much.

For a split second, I felt releif when the phone rang. I ran to my cell, only to find that it was the landline that was ringing. Why would Eridan call the landline?

My stomach sank when I saw the unknown number displayed.

"Hello?" I asked glumly, upset that It hadn't  been my brother

"Hello, might I ask who this is?" A man's voice asked through the receiver.

"This is Kanra Lithom... um, who are you?" I reply, some what confused.

"I'm Officer Strider, would this be the residance of an 'Eridan Ampora'? " I froze up.

"Y-yes... why do you want to know?" I was shaking a bit now. "W-what happened?"

I heard a regretful sigh. "I'm sorry, but there has been an accident... he's at the moment hospitalized and in critical condition... there isn't much we can do. Apparently, he had been texting when a truck turned the corner and..." The officer's voice drifted away as I got a feeling like I had been punched in the stomach.

Texting.... No.... H-he wouln't! He never would have! It couldn't have been.... It's all just a big mistake!

"Hello?" The voice on the other end broke me from my trance. Tears spilled from my eyes and I sobbed uncontrolably. "If you would like, I can arrange for a ri-" I hung up, curling up into a ball crying.

"It's my fault."

*End of flashback*

A long beeping brought me back to the present day. Doctors an nurses ran past me, rushing a crash cart and tons of needles in with them. For a while, all that could be heard was a constant beep and the frantic chatter from inside the ER. My heart broke into a million when everything suddenly fell silent.

The doctor left the room, took off his mask to reveal a sad frown...

And slowly shook his head.
