christmas movies, everyone loves them right? wrong. a young girl by the name, y/n, wasn't too keen on christmas movies. maybe because the orphanage shoved it down her throat every year, despite them being well-aware of her not liking them. then again, everyone else enjoyed the movies, so there's no point changing it for her.

ultimately, the reason why young y/n wasn't fond of christmas movies is that it was always about the magical world of family love. it confused her little brain because the parents in the movies were lovey-dovey, caring, and sometimes even too involved in their child's life.

her parents weren't like that.

don't get the wrong idea! they weren't hitting her or doing any mean things, it's just that they have a lot on their plates; they are heroes after all. mom/mum and dad just don't know how to manage their time, sometimes they completely forget about little y/n in the house - which seems normal since people forget or misplace things all the time, right?

"y/n! y/n!" the girl looked away from the screen to the person tapping her shoulder. it was kira, a long curly ginger-haired six-year-old with brown eyes and freckles all over her face. y/n has known kira since the beginning of her orphanage placement and played with her well, the pair even shared a room. dare i say, you could consider them as friends.

the ginger head girl grabbed her friend's hand and ran down the creaky old hallway to the large window they'd usually hang out in. the two hopped onto the window sill seat and looked out the window, to y/n's (non-existent) surprised: it was all might, fighting crime.

"look at him go!" kira beamed, jumping up and down, she looked back at all might then y/n, "don't you see how awesome he is? i can't wait to see him!"

"i don't get it." y/n turned her head to the side like a confused puppy, completely ignoring kira's question. she asked, well-aware of the backlash she'll get, "why does everyone like all might so much?"

"w-w-what!" kira freaked out, "are you a dummy? don't you see he is the symbol of peace, he's got such strong power and he's a hero!"

y/n didn't take her eyes off of all might, "well... don't you think that all heroes should be considered as a symbol of peace."

"well... yeah!" kira was a little stumped and the hesitancy in her voice was very clear. she quickly collected her pieces, "but- but! he stops the bad guys from doing bad with his heroic strong power."

her parents weren't praised like that, no wonder why everyone was so silent when they died. it's not that they had (or wanted) a flashy or amazing quirk like all might, they just wanted to express the true meaning of being heroes, without the flashy and title of it all.

"funny, eh.." y/n chuckled she pointed down at the part of the city that was destroyed mere seconds ago by all might and the so-called villain. "heroes cause more money issues and building problems than the villain. we make the villain pay for their actions and rot in jail, while we pick up and clean the heroes' leftovers."

"says the girl with no quirk." kira made fun before she shook her head, "plus.. no... i think they do it for the greater good!"

"which is?" y/n interrogated her.

kira said as if it was obvious, "stopping the bad guy!"

"what makes a ''bad guy" a "bad guy"? what if they're just doing a greater good for themselves and everyone's getting the wrong idea, or scared that people can be independent without the heroes patting their back and protecting them. this wasn't a requirement years ago, why is it now? someone's quirk finally has a purpose to be put on a pedestal?"

"stop asking me questions, i don't know!" kira yelled, most likely attracting a foster parent's attention. she pushed y/n away from her, absolutely stunned by her sudden actions. y/n was shy to be direct and blunt with her words which is why she stood out from the other kids, but something today ignited a spark that will soon flourish into a pit of fiery rage.

"why can't you just be normal like everyone else!" kira screamed.

like i said, you could consider them as friends. that doesn't mean you should.
