“You okay Anna?” Madison snuck up on me in the office. I had spent most of the day there deep in thought.
“I am just tired.” I lied easily.
“That is what you get for staying out late.” She chuckled at me and walked back into the studio.
The truth is I was trying to figure out what I was going to do next. I had to create a plan before I lost my mind. I had to somehow skillfully maneuver around all these promises and expectations as well as court and custody headaches. I had no doubt in my mind who that unknown text had been from. I just couldn’t believe it had happened so soon.
“Anna, Andy is here.” Madison yelled moments later.
Andy had text me last night asking to meet for lunch. I agreed.
“Hey beautiful.” He says as I walk out of the office.
“Hey.” I smile. He greets me with a kiss on the cheek.
“Ready?” He lingers near my cheek.
“I am not feeling really well Andy, raincheck?” I pleaded.
“Have you eaten breakfast?” He challenged me. I chewed on my lip knowing full well that I hadn’t but if I lied to him, he would know. “I’ll take that as a no.” He sighed. “Take a break. We’ll make it a quick lunch.”
“Andy, I am…”
“I know, “you don’t feel well” and you’ll feel better once you’ve eaten.” He interrupted me.
I looked over at Madison in hopes she would stick up for me and say something. All that bitch did was sit behind the counter with a smug smirk on her face and throw her hands defensively in the air.
“I’ll go get my purse.” I caved.
“Don’t worry about it. You don’t need it.” Andy stopped me from walking away. He laced his fingers with mine and ushered me towards the door. “I’ll have her back in about an hour Madison.” He sounded like he was talking to my mother or something.
“Take your time.” Madison smiled at him.
Andy led me to his car and opened my door for me. He could really be a gentleman sometimes.
“Where would you like to eat?” He cooed as he sat down beside me.
“Sandwich place is fine. There is a bistro a few blocks from here.” I offered.
“Thats fine.”

“You’re awfully quiet. Is everything okay?” Andy asks half way through lunch.
“I told you I wasn’t quite feeling well.” I laughed.
“Do I need to come bring you breakfast every morning?” He retorted. “You do a lot every day and you need to fuel to keep going Anna. You’re only hurting yourself.”
“Okay mom.” I laughed at him.
“I am serious Anna.” He wasn’t laughing. “You need to take better care of yourself. You’re not on tour anymore. The kids depend on you being healthy.”
“I don’t think I need you to lecture me on what my kids need.” I narrowed my eyes at him.
“I am sorry. I didn’t mean for it to sound like that.” Whoa. Andy apologizing? This is new. “Do you want to get heading back?”
“Not really.” I was enjoying watching him be uncomfortable for a moment. This whole apologetic Andy was something to revel in. “Want to get rid of me already?”
