Athena x Enyo

Part 2

Two armies stand across one another. The field in between them is the very land they fight for. One army wishes to own it. The other wishes to protect it.

The hatred shines in their eyes. Their shields glint in the early light of dawn. Each are lined up in a phalanx. Spears at the ready, ready to skewer whoever comes too close.

Behind the three rows of shields are foot soldiers. Those with a sword strapped to their side. Behind them archers. And lastly a bunch of riders on horses.

The tension between the two sides was thick. One wrong move and hell would break lose before the sign.

The sign.

When the sun just reached above the trees at the edge of the field the drums and horns sound. They signify the end of one army and the victory of the other.

With a loud battlecry the troops rush forward as fast as they can, meeting in the middle with clashing swords and shields.

"ARCHERS!"

A volley strikes from the army on the left.

"PUSH! PUSH!" The army on the right yells to the men with shields.

"KILL THEM!"

"TAKE THEIR LAND!"

"PROTECT- AARGHHHH!"

"AAAAHHHHH!"

"UGH!"

"TO YOUR LEFT!"

"WATCH OUT!"

In the middle of the mess of war two women materialized out of thin air. One in flowing white robes, with golden armor. The other in robes dark as abyss and armor in a silver color.

The woman in white has dark brown hair, bright grey eyes and a muscular build. She radiates both calmth and serenety.

The woman in black has hair dark as her robes. Her eyes blood red and she radiates chaos and madness.

For a moment the two women stare at each other. Until the woman in white stretches out her hand. The woman on black pulls her into a hug. The war around them doesn't seem to bother them at all. As if it's not even there.

"This is not what I had in mind when I said take me anywhere you feel at home." Athena, the woman in white stated.

"What can I say? No place like the battlefield." Enyo, the woman in black smirked.

They let go of one another. The war goddess, Enyo, let her hand go over Athena's cheek.

"The battlefield is as much your home as it is mine." She said.

The wisdom goddess, Athena, shook her head, but smiled.

"It's not the battlefield. It's the battle itself I feel most comfortable in." She responded.

"The very thing I control. Isn't that wonderful?" Enyo grinned.

At the snap of her fingers the violence stopped. The men that were fighting mere moments ago looked at one another and started hugging one another.

"You don't control darling, you corrupt." Athena stated, wrapping her arms around Enyo's waist.

"Now in that you are correct." The goddess of war said.

Again she snapped her fingers. Dark spirits seemed to escape those same fingers and nestle themselves in the bodies of the men, making them wake up from their dreamy cuddles and making them hit one another.

Around them the battle started raging again.

"Now can I take you somewhere?" Athena asked.

"Where?" Enyo asked in return.

"You didn't tell me where we were going either."

"Mhm, fine."

The wisdom goddess winked and snapped her fingers. The scenery around them changed. They stood in the middle of a courtyard. In the courtyard a man was teaching a class.

He didn't even look up when Athena started walking between the rows of young men, following the class with a focused gaze.

"Where the hell are we?" Enyo asked, waving her hand in front of one of the boys' eyes.

"My domain." Athena said with a smirk.

"In that case your domain is boring. War goddess suits you better." The goddess of war stated bluntly.

The daughter of Zeus shook her head, but smiled. She knew Enyo had little, to no love, for the things that weren't near to her heart. Her only hope was that somehow she might be able to turn that around, even it was ever so slightly.

"Darling, I was never meant to be a warrior. I was meant to be a defender and in times of peace a teacher, of knowledge and wisdom." The goddess said.

Enyo raised a brow. She didn't understand why her lover was telling her this. She only took her to that battle because she thought it was a place they would both like. Had she been wrong?

"So you don't like a battlefield?" The war goddess raised a confused brow.

"I never said that. Like I told you earlier, I feel at home within the battle itself. But if there is no need for one, why fight? When there are so many other things you could be doing?"

"Why wouldn't you fight though?" Enyo asked, still confused.

"The thrill of holding a weapon and using it to punch the other's brains out, isn't that amazing?! There's no other feeling that even matches that adrenaline."

"You're right, there is no feeling.. Quite like that one." Athena muttered.

"But what about learning a new skill? Something you never even know you could?" The wisdom goddess tried.

"Like, find out the hilt of a sword is as effective as a mace?"

"I mean... Sure... I guess..."

The daughter of Zeus wasn't sure if her girlfriend was understanding the point she was trying to make.

"You are so weird sometimes you know that. Just say it straight out, not with riddles. You know I'm more of the 'do first, think later' kind." Enyo said with a lopsided smirk.

'Oh I know.' Athena thought with an eye roll, but a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
