Allyson's POV
I feel so tired lately. I haven't been sleeping well ever since I received a weird package. It was a wedding dress with lots of blood and dead rats with it. Max convinced me it's maybe a paparazzi or a crazy stalker but I don't think it's just for a funny show or a hoax. It seemed to me that someone purposely sent that to me as a threat.
Tonight is the ball arranged for Albert's Foundation and I cannot wait for it to just end. I don't feel like celebrating at this very moment because this is the same day that Albert died and I don't get why people get to celebrate the life of someone who already died. Is it because they wanted to feel good about themselves for being alive or the mere fact that my mother is just going to spend the night telling the beneficiaries that "hey, because of my careless daughter, you get to benefit from my dead son's trust fund." that's how I see it because there's no way she will skip the drama on her speech, telling people how devastated she is for losing a great son, leaving the company in despair.
"Hi." A peck on my cheek, drifts me back to the reality. It was Max. He squeezes my hand, "Are you alright?" He asks. Aside from the bottle of scotch I gulped earlier, I feel fine.
I sigh, "I am." Of course I am, coz at some point I dress up well for this night; I'm wearing a Oscar De La Renta gown, who doesn't want that?
"I just miss my brother." I say.
Max holds my hand and kisses me on the lips. "I'm sure he knows how much you miss him. Don't let this be a reminder of his death coz this is also a reminder of your second life." He says.
When we reached the venue, the whole place is packed and I search for my family but before I even sweep the room with my eyes, I see Dana, Paul and my brother, Archie, standing and greeting the visitors.
"Max." Archie greets. He excuses himself and Max to meet some people. Archie never acknowledges me especially during this time of the year. He feels like it's my fault why he has to run the family business instead of just joining the army and going overseas.
"You make a great couple." Paul whispers.
"Coming from my ex's brother, huh?" I joke. "Where's Will?" I ask.
He shakes his head, "That I cannot answer. I haven't seen him for days and that is none of your business. Let him be. I'd rather not see him here."
"Why?"
"He's been off lately. I guess work is keeping him busy yet again. He flew to Chicago last week and our parents didn't even know what he did there. He said it was business but you know my brother, he has so many distractions in life lingering around him." Paul explains.
"Classic William." I hiss.
Dana kept on bugging me by asking me things about Max including the tour at the orphanage which no one knew except for me and Max and now Dana too. Dana is all support with me and Max and she even invited Max to be my plus one in her next magazine launch.
"Why do I feel like you cried the whole day?" Dana whispers.
I shake my head, "I drank a bit so it made my tears stuck in the back of my eyes." I joke.
"God, Ally! If your mom discovers, she'll send you out."
I raise both of my hands, "I'm sober. I promise." I smile.
She rolls her eyes at me.
Max sits beside me; we talk about the decorations and the people we think we knew mutually who were present at the party. I can see my mom walking her way to our table. Max stands as soon as he sees my mother. His hand is still holding mine, squeezing it for me to stand as well.
