Hazel's POV
I tried to be strong around Gus but it was like he could tell when I was feeling bad for him. And I know he hates pity so I feel really guilty when he catches me watching him with pity in my eyes.
Anyways, this particular morning I had just got up and received a text message from Gus saying "I'm officially out of the hospital! I am going home! :)"
I quickly texted back "Great! Coming over in 20!" And hopped out of bed to brush my teeth, change and grab a breakfast to go.
Recently, Gus had been doing okay with his memory and he was pretty healthy so the hospital must've decided to let him go. I smiled, knowing that he was very excited at his improvement.
"Well," I mumbled to the mirror, "At least I can go visit him more often now!"

Soon, I was pulling up in front of his house and I saw Gus' face dart away from the window and emerge out of the door.
"Hazel!" He ran over to me a pulled me into a hug.
Laughing at how eager he was to see me, I hugged him back and pulled away to look at his face.
"So how is it not having to stay at the hospital anymore?" I asked.
"Great!" He replied beaming down at me. "Anyways, let's go in shall we?""
"Of course!"
He practically dragged me into the house and called out to his mom to let her know I was here. Then he pulled me upstairs to his room.
"I have something to give to you." He explained as he saw my confused face at how rushed he was. Then without waiting for a reply he ran into his room and came out with a huge box that had a bow on it.
"Here!" He said. "You can open it now if you want to!"
"Thanks!" I said happily, thankful to have such a caring guy in my life.
Then carefully, I undid the bow and ripped off the wrapping paper. Sitting there was a bright pink box. Well this was interesting. Gus knew I hated neon colours, but I let it slide since it was the thought that counted and after all, he had injured his head. I then lifted the lid off the box and peeked inside. There was more wrapping paper.
Wow this thing is over packaged. I thought, but I pulled off the wrapping paper and lifted the gift out from inside.
It was a huge box set of Barbie dolls.
"Well..... This is nice. Thanks." I said, choosing my words carefully. Was Gus' memory failing again? Was his perception of normal okay? Maybe he forgot that I didn't play with Barbie dolls since I was a little to old to enjoy that anymore.
"You're welcome! Do you want to play with them right now?" He asked me, quite genuinely.
"Um, just give me a moment I forgot that my mom told me to ask your mom something. I'll be right back."
"Sure! I'll take all the stuff out of the box so when you come back it will all be ready!" Gus smiled.
"Yeah you do that." then I spun around and ran down the stairs.
I just needed to confirm with his mom that he hadn't been sick or acting really weird recently.
