"You aren't my partner in crime anymore."
Doyoung almost choked out his coffee after listening to Lily's sudden statement. It resulted in Doyoung coughing quite vigorously. As expected Lily didn't really have much of a reaction to him almost dying, she had no change of expression as she quietly pushed the tissue box resting on the other side of the table to him.
Doyoung took a tissue, wiped his mouth and went to get a glass of water. He came and sat across Lily at his table. He then finally looked at her who didn't have any expression on her face as usual and was blowing on her nails. She was so relaxed as if she didn't just drop a bomb on him seconds ago. He doesn't know what he is supposed to if she really means it.
"What do you mean, Lily? You don't wanna do this with me anymore? We can always do something else to.."
"I'm not quitting doing this. I'm just saying that you're not my partner in crime anymore."
Doyoung frowned,"You found someone else?"
Lily nodded.
"Do you think anyone else can deal with you better than me?" Doyoung sighed and leaned back in his chair, knowing there is no point of reasoning with her if she has already made up her mind. He felt defeated for thinking they would finally be able to escape this line of work together,"Who is it anyway?"
Lily finally looked at him. The final rays of the orangish sunlight fell on her through the railed window behind Doyoung. She looked unreal in this unlit room with only light source being the window.
Also when doesn't she?
But right at this moment, seeing her reminded Doyoung of her mother. She looks just like her. Doyoung shook his head. This is not the time to think about that. He has to deal with Lily right now.
Lily looked dead serious as she said,"My closet monster."
Say what now?
Doyoung frowned,"What?"
She mentioned about a closet monster few days ago too. Is this her new thing now? To annoy him? To scare him? Either way Doyoung doesn't like it.
"Yup, see I even made a bond with him,"Lily said while pulling her sleeves up and showing Doyoung a tattoo of two small devil horns on her wrist.
"You got a tattoo?"Doyoung asked resting his head against the soft leather of his chair.
"No, this is the mark to prove that I made a bond with the devil."
Doyoung nodded,"Ah."
"You don't believe me, do you?"
"Of course I do. Don't scare me like that again, Lily. I was really scared. I thought you were really leaving me."
Lily smirked,"I'm not leaving you, I'm demoting your ass from my partner in crime to my information guy. From now on he would be my partner and be by my side while I do my job. You'd just bring me clients like usual. I want to reserve the word 'partner' for him."
Doyoung sighed. This time in relief. This joke isn't really funny. Not funny at all to be honest. And he doesn't even know if she's joking or is having delusions but for now he is glad.
"But the look on your face was hilarious when I said you aren't my partner in crime anymore."
Doyoung looked up at her and smiled.
