You awoke to the feeling of soft kisses across your shoulder, a firm arm pressing around your belly, holding you in place. Emily murmured a quiet "good morning" as her bangs tickled your skin.
"Mmm, morning," you yawned as you turned to face Emily. She smiled at your sleepy voice and reached to give you a soft kiss.
"You didn't take your makeup off last night," you said, noticing her full, dark eyelashes as they fluttered against her skin. There was something so ethereal about the way that Emily's skin seemed to glow, the way her hair shined and bounced around her shoulders, the way her plump, pink lips were so inviting.
"I guess I didn't," Emily said with an uncomfortable chuckle, closing her eyes to breathe you in. Without any notice, she quickly stood from the bed and started to dig through her go-bag frustratedly. You could barely make it out, but she cursed under her breath when she couldn't find what she was looking for.
"You okay, babe?" you asked, pushing yourself to a sitting position, pulling the covers up with you.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, I'm fine. I just didn't pack everything I need in my go-bag for the trip and I don't know when I will get the time to replace it."
Emily grabbed her shower kit and scurried off to the shower, uncharacteristically quiet and almost... forlorn? You couldn't quite place the emotion, it was one unfamiliar on Emily's face and seemed to be masked by her walls.
For as caring and attentive as Emily was, it was almost as if she was playing the character of the perfect girlfriend to prevent you from peering deeper into her soul, from seeing whatever it was she kept so hidden from everyone. You knew that it wasn't just you. In the near year you had been with the BAU, Emily seemed to be a listening ear for everyone on the team, ready with a sarcastic quip or one-liner but never much more. And the pieces she did share about herself? Were few and far between, and certainly were not cut into pieces that allowed for her puzzle to be put together.
Once at the Boise police department, Emily appeared back to her normal self but you were still worried about her. In the main bullpen seemed to be every single police officer in the county, including local, sheriff, and state officers in varying uniforms. They paced the floor, filling coffee mugs and flipping through files helplessly. You and the team had been working for several hours on coordinating all of the information brought in by the various departments working the case to put together a profile for the investigators to use preliminarily. Usually, a profile took time to build but the urgency of the case demanded that the team deliver anything and everything they could decipher with the existing information.
Standing at the front of the large room, Hotch cleared his throat and nodded at Reid as he wheeled in a whiteboard from the conference room the team had been working tirelessly in since early that morning. Spread out in a line, you and the rest of the team took turns delivering the profile.
"Because of the urgency of this situation, we find it of utmost importance for each and every one of you to go into the field today with a baseline understanding of our unsub," Hotch started.
"That isn't to say that this is a final profile, not by any means," Rossi continued. "We still have our own investigating to conduct and lots of questions yet to find the answers to."
"As you can see by the geographic profile that I have started to construct," Reid said, pointing to half of the whiteboard he wheeled out, "we are working with an expansive land area with too many tortures and murders to feasibly be one person."
"Whoever these people are, however, are working cohesively as a team almost as if they are all following the same cookie-cutter formula of torture and death," Derek interjected. "The kills are all too similar, the ritual too exact for this not to be a meticulously planned and executed attack on these women. Whoever is designing these attacks is your textbook sexual sadist and we theorize that almost all if not all of the people executing are varying levels of the same."
