Arcadia POV

The night air was cold as it brushed against my face. The clanking of roof tiles sounded under my feet as I raced down the rooftop.

I turned to look back at the dorm room window I had jumped up now on my right. Climbing up onto the roof of my dorm or just knocking the dormroom door down what my other two options. It didn't seem like the smartest choice. For the first option I didn't plan on running away to safety. As for the latter Dayna would have spotted me and guilt tripped me into going back to the dormroom. Seeing as she was my mentor I would have had to give in. I knew the reasons for her locking up in that room was for my safety. So knocking that door down wasn't an option, I would have been preoccupied with keeping her safe rather than offering my help against the intruders.

The daggers in my boots were the only ones I had left. I was two short. I'd used the others to climb up the building I jumped onto from my window. It wasn't easy but it did the job.

Looking down through the windows of the dorm room that I now faced, I spotted groups of kids. They were running down the hall to their dorms. Some of them were screaming while others were following their mentors. I didn't blame them. If Naomi hadn't taken me in and trained me I would have been just as helpless as they are now.

The dormroom hall was long and so was the roof I was on. This rooftop provided a better vantage point. It overlooked the entire floor. I could see everything that was happening without being noticed.

Then I heard it. The unmistakable shrieks of unnatural creatures. I stopped dead in my tracks. Quickly making my way over to where the shrieks were loudest. Hopping of ledges and knocking of a few tiles in the process. I skidded to the edge of the roof and peered into the windows.

Two Shades flew past the stained glass windows of the dorm. Three windows down someone dressed in a black coat was making a run for it. Why was a high ranked memeber of society running away from an enemy? Just then the individual that had been racing down the hall stopped dead in their tracks. My eyes narrowed and my posture stiffened when I recognized those glowing eyes.

How was I going to make it over to him in time? I scanned the sides of the roof and noticed a metal staircase at the end. I could make that jump. I ran over to the opposite side of the staircase. Putting some distance between the edge of the roof and myself. I closed the distance running to build up momentum for the jump.

I landed on one of the stairs but lost my footing. Gripping the ledges I balanced myself. Using my left boot heel I kicked the glass of the nearby window and slid of the staircase onto the carpeted hallway.

Once landed I sheathed my swords. The last thing I needed was to appear hostile. Kale was going to take them down if he felt they were a threat I'm sure of it. His eyes were glowing when he confronted them. It also glowed when he told me he was a Gurdian before I met Day. I wonder what it meant when his eyes glowed? I made a mental note of checking the Axel Archive for information on Gurdians, Royal Gurdians in particular.

Walking down the hall I tried to create scenarios in my head of what my pressence would warrant. Would they attack? If so, how would they attack? My mind traveled back to unsettling noise I heard before. If they did, Kale could take them both. But they did not attack. I replayed the scene I had witnessed moments ago in my head. It looked like they were following him. Why were they following him?

I turned at the corner of the hall, I knew I  would have a clear view of Kale and the other two Shades. But before I could, I heard voices. Yes, plural. How was that? Only Kale was there before and the Shades didn't speak out language. Maybe some of the warriors were dispatched to protect him.
