Rain's P.O.V.
After leaving Annabelle back in the dorm, I made my way back to class. I hope she's okay. I was so worried in that class. I nearly growled at the teacher because I thought he was going to hurt Annabelle. The fact that she was hurting and seemed very weak just had me feeling useless because I didn't know what to do.Hopefully a lot of rest will make her feel better.
As I walk back into the classroom, everything goes quiet. They were whispering about Annabelle but I don't know what they were saying about her. I am scared for her. Zane hit her, that makes it okay for others to hit her.
It's not fair that she gets hurt. Annabelle is the type of person who is selfless and kind, who doesn't hate anyone. Why won't they just hurt me instead of her?
"Is she ok?" The teacher asks, startling me out of my thoughts.
I just nod my head and take my seat. I don't pay attention to what the teacher is talking about. The classes go by in a blur until lunch.
The guys are trying to cheer me up and the only reason I'm in the lunch room is because you're not allowed in the dorms at lunch.
When we came in everything went quiet. The silence and the stares were unnerving and fear began to rise in my stomach.
I got lunch and then took my usual seat with the guys. That's when the whispering started and I caught people glancing at me and then in the direction of Zane.
My fists balled up at the sight of him. I've never been this angry towards someone.
Annabelle's face popped into my mind, she wouldn't like if I hurt someone, anyone. I began to calm myself down, knowing this is what Annabelle would want.
I need to make sure Annabelle is safe. I'll take the beatings for her gladly but will they stop at me?
"Don't mind him." Says Sam patting me on the shoulder. It's strange, I would usually flinch away from anyones touch except Annabelle's, of course. I must be beginning to trust them.
I hear footsteps approaching and turn to see Zane coming this way. Maybe he's going to leave Annabelle alone and take his anger out on me.
He comes to the head of the table, placing his hands on it. "Look, I shouldn't have went that far but that's no reason for my father to come. So I want to know why she is even here and why the heads of school are making such a big deal over this!"
I was still going over his first line. Shocked that he sort of apologised.
"That's because it is a big deal. You beat up a human girl!" Sam states with anger.
"Yeah what did she ever do to you?" Rages Lucas.
"You know what she's done. Everyone walks on egg shells around her. The rules of the school were changed for her!" Shouts Zane. "I'm not the only one who wanted to teach her a lesson, and I admit that I lost control but it was for good reason."
"You never hit a girl. Ever. No matter the reason." Says Daniel in a low and dangerous voice. "Or did anyone teach you right from wrong."
"Shut it, before I put my fist through your face! Well, lapdog where is she? Too lazy to come in or just scared." Zane rants.
I look up at him and feel my anger rise. It gives me strength to stand up to him.
"She came in this morning but they told her to go back to bed. She has to stay in bed and be in pain because of you." I'm standing now and pointing an accusing finger towards his chest. "She has a concussion, cracked cheek bone and broken ribs because of you!"
I'm shocked when Zane takes a step back. There is shock on his face as he looks back at me.
"That's not possible. I didn't, I wouldn't hit her that hard." He says but his voice is lower and there is no anger in it.
"Well you did." Says Sam, glaring at Zane.
"Wait, your dad has to come in?" Lucas chimes in. Sam and Daniel look at him like he has ten heads.
"Yeah the principal started giving out to me., saying it is a very serious matter. Don't her parents have to come too?" Zane says, looking annoyed.
I shake my head. It's the first I've heard on the matter. I start to panic but quickly remember that no one knows who Annabelle's "parents" are.
"What!? Why are all the rules being bent for that useless bitch!?" Zane shouts in my face.
Flashbacks swirl in my vision and I feel my every muscle tense.
Sam's voice breaks my terrified state. "Zane, stop. There's a reason her parents can't come."
I really hope the school doesn't decide to put us back there. She doesn't deserve this. I should have been there!
"Why? Why don't they come and let her father see what rules they've put on us wolves!?" Zane states angrily.
Sam turns his head away. He won't lie to Zane but he won't tell him the truth either. We are so lucky to have him as a friend. To have all three of them as friends.
Then I realise what he's been saying. That Annabelle somehow changed the rules but that can't be. She never asks for anything unless absolutely needed.
My mouth turns to a frown as I mull over what Zane has said, trying to make sense of it.
Zane growls and snarls; "So your not going to give me a reason? Fine. Just tell me why she's here in the first place."
"Sorry Zane but that's up to the two of them. If they decide to then fine, but I won't tell you anything." Sam says while standing up.
"What he said." Says Lucas.
Daniel just nods his head and takes my arm to signal that we're leaving. The bell rings just as we leave the cafeteria.
"Guys, what did Zane mean about Annabelle changing the rules?" I ask, voice quiet, hoping it's a question I can ask.
The fears are running rampant in my head. Turning everyone into a potential danger to me and Annabelle.
"Com'on Rain, you know what we're talking about." Daniel says.
"We don't mind. Sure it's annoying sometimes but we understand why those rules had to be changed." Says Sam while shrugging his shoulders.
"I really don't know what you're talking about." I state quietly.
"What if she didn't tell him?" Lucas whispers not so quietly.
The thought of Anna hiding something from me sent a sting to my heart. What if she didn't trust me? What if I've been forcing myself on her?
I put a nervous hand through my hair to settle my thoughts.
I'll just talk to her later.
"Maybe you should ask Annabelle about the rules after school." Sam says patting me on the back.
