A.n.: I got the inspiration of this story from Dr. Feelgood and the timeline of my favorite Canadian TV series "Murdoch Mysteries". During those times, doctors would prescribe drugs as medicine, so I thought that it would be interesting to think of a story about it. I included some random historical events for a little bit of authenticity.

It's 1906 and you're in Ottawa. The Ottawa Public Library has been opened for two weeks. You were there with your father, who used to be a banker in San Francisco. Since the earthquake that destroyed your father's work place, you and your father have been living in your hometown, Ottawa. You loved your hometown, but you still couldn't forget your mother's death. She died of tuberculosis when you were ten years old. You hoped that the beginning of the new century would cheer you up a little. And sure it did. But then you had to move to San Francisco, because of your father's job. And now, you were back. You really loved reading, so you wanted to go out with your father.

As your father was looking at some books for bank management, you were at the poems section. As you were looking at some books, you suddenly saw a man with glasses and black hair, looking at some medicine books. Probably, he was some kind of scientist or doctor, studying in some university. But you couldn't deny the fact, that he was looking good. While you were daydreaming, he made an eye contact with you, causing you to open your eyes wider. Then he came to you, as you were now hiding your face behind a Shelley book.

"And so thy thoughts, when thou art gone, love itself shall slumber on." Nikki said.
"Oh, Shelley. This one's really deep."
"What about this one? "Love seeketh not itself to please, not for itself hath any care, but for another gives its ease, and builds a Heaven in Hell's despair." This one's even deeper."
"This one's by far the best from Blake, in my opinion."
"Hey, would you like to go out with me someday?"
"Well, firstly I don't know your name-"
"I'm Nikki. I'm studying medicine in University of Toronto."
"Well, I'm (Y/N). My father is a banker."
"Oh, so you're from Ottawa?"
"Well, yeah. What about you?"
"I'm from Seattle, but I moved into Toronto, for I really wanted to study medicine there."
While you and Nikki were talking, suddenly your father called you.
"Oh, I have to go. My father's calling me."
"Wait. Let's meet tomorrow at the café nearby."
"Okay."

The next day you and Nikki were drinking your coffees, while talking about each other. After some personal oriented conversation, he started talking about his weird experiments. He was really convinced in his discoveries about the medicines every doctor prescribes. They actually led to addiction way more dangerous than any sickness they're trying to prevent. But instead of saying that in a worried tone, he said it with a scary smile. Like, he was really enjoying himself, doing those experiments. Though, he was using other individuals, instead of trying it himself, for he was well aware of the harsh consequences. The drugs he examined were cocaine, morphine and the worst one: heroin. When he told you about heroin, you got to the conclusion that your mother might've died from overdose.

You started getting nervous around this man. He was acting like a maniac. Yet, you were intrigued so much by his discoveries. Why though? You had your experience with drugs too. When you had a toothache year ago, you would take some cocaine. But then you started taking cocaine on random basis, so you kind of knew what it was like to be addicted. But then your father caught you taking cocaine and told you to stop it, otherwise you're gonna be kicked out. Though, you've never tried heroin. It's true that it killed your mother, but what if she just hadn't known how to take her dose carefully? You told him about your cocaine experience and his eyes went wide and sparkling. You got really scared for a moment, yet you found him really cute. He was nerdy and really handsome. He knew how to grab your attention. The way he recited your favorite poems made your legs weak. His voice was so enchanting, he could literally put you under hypnosis for awhile. You found yourself falling for him.

Your thoughts were interrupted by Nikki:
"Hey (Y/N), earth's calling."
"Oh um- what have we talked about?"
"You know what? Come with me."
"Where?"
"In my office. I want to show you something."
"Alright."

It started raining, so you had to run in order to get to his office. When you entered the office, you were faced by a nice interior. Brown leather couch, a comfy chair behind the desk, even some big vases with rubber plants. Then he made you sit down the couch.
"Do you want to have some fun?"
"Oh what kind of fun?"
"Trust me. You'll have an amazing trip." Saying that he gave you a wink.
"Okay."
"Close your eyes."

Then he gave you a shot of heroin, under the pretext of being cocaine. You immediately fell unconscious. You woke up and sat there staring somewhere in distance. Then you started laughing and crying at the same time. You felt happy and lost. You were like some experimental mouse at this point. You were so high, you didn't know what you were doing. At your highest point of euphoria, you grabbed Nikki and kissed his lips hungrily. All Nikki was doing was writing down everything you've done. When you fell unconscious again, he led you to your house. Your father was in some hotel in Toronto, which meant that you're alone for 2 weeks. You were sleeping in your room, having weird dreams. Meanwhile, Nikki was busy analyzing your case. He was smiling evilly, as he was reading his notes.
