MEGAERA COULDN'T HELP BUT FEEL ALONE. And it has almost always been that way her entire teenage years. Even though right now, she was in the Malfoy's ballroom, standing in a sea of people, she felt incredibly alone. As she raised her flute filled with expensive champagne, her eyes found her friend's grey one's who winked at her.
It's not that she wasn't happy for Cissy, she technically was, in some sense. Narcissa has always dreamed of getting married, Megaera has been just a little adamant about who her friend was marrying. But it's not like as if she wouldn't be in the same position in a few months time.
Once Malfoy Senior finished the speech, Megaera didn't waste a second to knock back her champagne. She hated these types of parties, well she hated almost any other pure blood get together, but her parents forced her into coming. Just as her parents forced her to do almost everything else.
The only good things at this types of events were the food and the fact that Narcissa, one of her closets friends, was present making the experience bareable.
"Megaera, dear , remember your diet", her mother whispered to her as she passed by, making Megaera quietly groan. Her mother made her follow this stupid diet since June.
She would have her morning and afternoon tea only, and for dinner, the girl would receive either a salad or a thin piece of bread. But only one piece no more or less. She had to endure this ridiculous diet until she is betrothed. Until then, she must follow it step by step, letter by letter. And she must, by any means stick to it.
Even if Megaera wanted to, she couldn't find her way around it. Considering that her sister Alecto, had taken her role of being her food supervisor almost too seriously. Even at Hogwarts, her sister would send daily reports to her mother, regarding Megaera's diet.
Alecto didn't have a diet anymore, considering that she had been betrothed last Christmas to some pureblood git that Megaera couldn't bother to know the name of. The black haired witched had bet that the agreement wouldn't make it to an actual wedding. Because of her newly status, Alecto was free to eat whatever she pleased, sometimes resembling a pig, making Megaera snort in amusement at dinner. Funnily enough, Megaera had always viewed Alecto as a pig, she just now took the part of eating like one.
"Hey" a sweet voice whispered at her, making Megaera wake up from her dazed state, only to find Narcissa trying to smuggle her some of her food. The Carrow girl took it eagerly, scarfing the little cucumber sandwich down her throat.
" I can't believe you're getting married" Megaera looked at her friend with a little smile. Even though Lucius wasn't someone Megaera particularly liked for Narcissa, she was at least a little relieved that Cissy was happy beside him.
"I know", Narcissa squealed and Megaera scowled. "Hey, stop it. You know this is part of our destiny, I'm just lucky enough that Lucius and I actually like each other. Imagine spending the rest of your life with someone you're not in love with".
Megaera couldn't even imagine the probability of love alone.
"I'm just so thankful for him" Narcissa sighed while looking at her husband-to-be with hearts in her eyes. Making Megaera quietly roll hers.
Cissy began her usual routine of ranting about Lucius's hair so Megaera tuned her out. It was kind of exhausting in her opinion, but no matter what, she couldn't deny that she would tremendously miss her blonde haired best friend this school year.
It's not that she didn't have anyone else to rely to in the castle, because she had.
Lily Evans, gryffindor, red head, muggleborn.
