Chapter 20

Libitina woke up to an empty house which was very confusing for her. She sat on her bed thinking about the things that happened yesterday. She was so upset knowing about the thoughts she had yesterday, she never did what she did yesterday before. She decided to push the thoughts away and get ready for the day as she had work. When she was ready she headed downstairs and opened the double doors to the betting den. There was already men pilled in giving in their bets which meant Libitina slept in.

She placed herself at her desk and started taking the bets that the men were giving her. When some of the men pilled out of the shop Libitina went into the kitchen of her family home seeing Polly sitting at the table, reading the paper.

"Hi Poll, you okay?" Libitina greeted her.

"I'm well thank you, yourself?" Polly questioned.

"Yes, I'm okay." She answered.

Libitina poured herself some tea and sat herself down on one of the chairs. Just when she took a seat Arthur walked in through the back door.

"Where's your father?"Polly questioned him.

"I'm assuming he's frittering away the five hundred pound you took from us and put into his thieving whore-grouping hands." Polly said looking up from the paper to look at her eldest nephew.

Libitina decided to stay quite and sip her tea looking at the two people talking.

"What were you thinking?" Polly questioned. "How dare you do something like that without talking to Thomas or me?"

"Does Tommy know?" Arthur asked.

Polly looked back at her paper before answering. "No. But your gonna tell him."

Libitina finished her tea and walked out the front door and across the street to her husband's house. She didn't know what she was going to say but she needed to know why. She knocked on the door waiting for someone to answer. The door opened and she saw Katie.

"Hi Lib! Please, come in." Katie exclaimed.

"Hi darling, where's your dad?" Libitina asked nicely.

"He just popped to the shop, he said he would be back soon. Please come sit in the living room." Katie told her.

"Well, while I wait for him would you like me to plait your hair?" Libitina offered.

"Oh yes please!" Katie exclaimed.

"Okay well take a seat then ey and I'll get started." Libitina said and Katie listen.

About ten minutes later Libitina was finished with Katie's hair and went upstairs to play with the rest of the kids. She missed them, she hasn't seen them for a while as she's been too scared to come over. The front door opened about five minutes after.

"Kids, I'm home." John shouted up the stairs.

"Kids, could you stay up here while I go talk with your dad?" Libitina asked nicely and the kids nodded at her request.

She got up off of the floor and walked out the kids room closing the door behind her and walked down the stairs and into the kitchen where John was, putting the food away.

"Hi John." Libitina said quietly which made John turn around in a hurry.

"Hi Lib." John said, not having a clue on why she would be here.

"Was you with Lizzie again or.." She asked him.

"No Lib, I promise. I went to get the kids food for dinner and then I stopped by the betting den hoping to find you but you wasn't there." John answered her truthfully.
