Working holidays in a bakery was more fun than expected — especially Valentine's day.

Emma painted hearts onto our front windows, Fiona replaced our usually white napkins with pink and red ones and let the local kids make art to hang on the wall. I filled the display case with cupcakes iced to look like roses and sugar cookies in the shape of Cupid's arrows.

Valentine's day had exploded in Fiona's Bakeshop, and I loved it.

The other fun thing about Valentine's day was just baking sweets in general. After hearing about my affinity, Abby invited Fiona and I to bake at her house for a day. It was apparently also a way to say thank you again.

They had never baked before, but had many recipe cards, so we decided to pull one out. Carla, who I learned was a caretaker, read out the measurements and ingredients while Fiona and Abby baked. When they were done, I frosted.

We had left some blank, heart-shaped sugar cookies for everyone else to decorate while I focused on more elaborate designs.

"I didn't know you were left-handed." Abby commented as I piped some swirlies onto a cupcake.

I nodded and went back to icing — with my left hand of course. I liked Abby's kitchen. It was spacious compared to mine, and had beautiful countertops.

"My mother thought left-handed people were cursed." Fiona said, filling one of the bowls with more red and white sprinkles.

"Thank you?" I joked, and the few of us chuckled. When it died down, I asked, "So what're you guys doing for Valentine's day?"

"Oh, you know, probably just gonna hang around the house." Abby answered before having an epiphany, "Ooh, maybe we could do a girls night."

While Carla mumbled in agreement, I furrowed my brows at that answer. I was kind of surprised to hear she wasn't doing anything with Buck since I knew they'd been talking. But then again, he had stopped mentioning her the last couple days. I made a mental note to ask him about it later.
