It'd been hours since the initial hit of the quake. The sun had set by now, and the last aftershock was long gone — but Athena and I were still driving around helping people out.

She got a radio call about a disturbance in the area we were in. A store owner was concerned for his own safety. When we arrived, there were already a couple other officers on scene, trying to calm down a rowdy crowd huddled near the front door of the shop.

We hopped out of the cruiser, Athena gesturing for me to follow her.

"LAPD!" She called as we wove into the commotion, "I need everyone to back up! Keep your hands where we can see them!"

But as I studied the citizens in the crowd, I noted that they weren't much other than citizens in a crowd. It was busy, but it wasn't violent, and it was loud, but not enough to cause a panic. I wondered what the problem was — then someone pointed it out.

"We ain't the ones shooting!"

Athena and I stepped into the store, through the plastic strips, coming face to face, with who I assumed was the shop owner, carrying a gun. When he saw Athena, he put it down and raised his hands above his head.

"Thank god. These people are crazy," He breathed.

"They're crazy?" I cocked an eyebrow, "You're the one with the gun."

Athena held a hand and signalled for me to relax. Instead she asked, "You have a license for that?"

"Yes ma'am. I have all the paperwork in the back." He answered confidently, "I can't expect you people to be here all the time."

"Alright, well we're here now. Tell me what's going on," Athena prompted.

"Exactly what it looks like, they tried to loot my store!" He exclaimed.
