Kate's POV
I turn around when the bell above the door rings. Someone is entering the bakery. It's a woman with blonde hair, she is very thin and i notice she is expecting a baby when she is putting a hand on her stomach. She lifts her head and i froze. That's this girl Matty came in with the first time i met him. That's Gemma...
"Hello, uhm can i have a croissant and uhm...tea?", she is asking with a low soft voice. When i don't move, just staring at her, she asks,"Uhm are you alright?" "Oh uhm yeah, tea and croissant, okay. One moment please." I prepare the tea and the croissant and Gemma put the money on the counter. She looks so fragile and tired. "Sorry for asking, but do you feel alright?" Gemma looks up, "Yeah. I am just a bit tired..." "Do you know if it will be a girl or a boy?" She raises her brows, firstly doesn't get what i meant. Then she puts her hands on her stomach again. "Oh, well...i don't know yet. I am not sure if i want to know." I smile, but a question comes to my mind, which takes my breath. "You and the...father surely are very happy huh?" She shakes her head. "There is no father...", she whispers. OMG!! Then she grabs her tea and croissant, waving for a good bye and leaves.
The rest of the day, i can't get the picture of Gemma, her body and her tired eyes out of my head. She suffers, maybe even still loves him. Who am i to disturb this love??
NOO, i am shaking my head, i should stop thinking about this. Matty didn't want to talk about if he really is the father, and what i have heard about gemma, she isn't the girl who is faithful.
The bell door is ringing again. "Hey love, are you ready to go?" There's Matty, smiling and running his hand through his messy hair. I decide to surpress Gemma. Maybe she just had a shit day. I put on a big fake smile, "Yeah ready." and kiss Matty before we leave the bakery.
We spend the day in my flat, watching movies, talking about everything that comes to mind. I am in the kitchen, preparing sandwiches when Matty comes in. "Babe, i am sorry but i have to go." I look up, our eyes meet and i notice a expression in his eyes he wants to hide. "Everything alright?" "Yeah...uhm George has some problems with some stuff. See ya tomorrow okay?" "Okay" Matty kisses me and leaves.
Matty's POV
With the fag between my fingers i blow the smoke in the sky and put my phone out, reading that text again.
Hey Matt, i am the new boyfriend of Gemma. Wanna talk to you, meet me at Gemma's house at 7 pm.
Now i am here, waiting for nearly ten minutes, taking the third cigarette out of the pack in my pocket. Suddenly i notice someone coming out of Gem's house. "Healy", the guy says. I just nod. "You are...?" "I am Pete, I-" "Well, i see Gem's new fuck friend. What do you want?", i say, feeling anger growing. 'Why the fuck wants this fucker talk to me?'
"You know,...Gemma is broken since you left her and-" "We were not even together!!", i snap. Pete raises his arms,"I know, i know...but, i dont know how to say it, mate but i like her. I really do...and i have no idea what i should do to make her happy again"
I just stare at Pete, not knowing what to say. He loves her? Well, Gem deserves someone who loves her, who takes care of her...
"Listen, Healy...i just want you to talk to her. I don't know anyone else, i could ask." "I can't- I-..." Pete looks disappointed,"Well...okay mate. It's okay..." and he wants to turn around to enter the house. "Wait!!" He turns to me. "I-", i close my eyes, remembering the time i spend with Gemma. We were in love for a long time and she was always there for me. I take a breath before i tell Pete, "Alright, Pete. I will think about it...i will text you" He seems relieved,"Thanks."
I turn around and walk away, putting the fourth cig out and blow the smoke out in the dark cold night.
