Moon sprinted down the docks, trying to find the company. The smell was getting progressively stronger. She skidded around the corner, only to smack flat into the very person she was looking for.
"Thorin!" she gasped, lunging forward and grabbing his hand so he didn't fall into the disgusting lake water. "You are so fat! Someone help!" but the company was laughing to hard to help them, and they both went tumbling into the water.
Moon came splashing up out of the dark water. Gasping and gagging at the same time.
Thorin and her were crawling back onto the deck when she slipped and fell back into the water. Thorin reached down and grabbed the hood of her cloak, throwing her up onto the deck.
She spluttered and coughed, before standing up and whimpering about diseases.
"M-Moon," stuttered Thorin. She looked down and shrieked out of embarrassment, pulling her dress up, which had slid too far down for comfort.
"V-Valar I-I'm s-sorry. Ha ha bye," Moon mumbled before sprinting off, her wings drooping and sopping wet.
"Moon! Wait!" yelled Thorin, chasing after her. She had longer legs, so naturally she ran faster than him, but she also had dragon wings on her back, weighing her down.
Soon, Thorin found her leaning against a rock, peeling her clothes off. She turned glance at him and squeaked, covering herself with her leathery wings.
"Um, your not supposed to be here," she commented nervously.
"Well, I was just- I was just coming to talk- but then you-" he motioned to her. It wasn't like he hadn't seen a woman naked before, but, for some reason, Moon was different. Whenever he was around her he always got nervous and blushy, which were extremely strange characteristics for him.
"Well I didn't know- you know- you just-" she motioned to him, pulling on her cloak.
They stood there for a moment of awkward silence before Thorin said,"I'll just go- yeah I'll just go-"
"No! Thorin, wait. I-I need to tell you something," said Moon. "It would be easier if you sat down," she added hesitantly. He sat down on the rock she was sitting on.
"Th-There's a prophecy, about me, and S-Sm-him. It goes like this:
The one with the power to tame him approaches,
F-Forever cursed in her own form.
Winter meets Summer and it is certain one will fall.
But Winter must not let him control her.
The one with the power to tame him approaches,
Forever cursed in her own form," said Moon shakily, before bursting into tears. "That is what I meant, when I said I will never be the same again."
Thorin was struck with shock, and he did something he never thought he would do: he gently turned her chin towards him, and kissed her. For a moment, it was as if neither was sure what was happening, but both immediately responded. They both pulled away, gasping for breath.
"Moon I-"
"No it's okay. I-"
But both were at a complete loss for words, not exactly sure why their hearts were thumping a hundred miles an hour, or why their stomachs were doing backflips, or what on earth had really just happened.
"Are we like- a thing?" asked Moon.
"Yes?"
She let out a breath she didn't realize she had been holding. "Good. Otherwise that would have been really awkward."
They looked at one another and burst out laughing. Thorin couldn't remember when the last time he really laughed was, but it felt good, and he was happy with Moon. As she was happy with him.
"Here we are-" laughed Thorin.
"And we both smell like shit," gasped Moon.
"Trying to be romantic," breathed Thorin, tears coming to his eyes. He wasn't even sure what was funny anymore, but Moon just had that effect on him.
"Okay, okay. We will bathe on opposite sides of the rock, and then we'll go back together?" suggested Moon.
"Then announce us as a thing, or whatever we are," agreed Thorin.
"We're a thing thing, not just a thing, right?"
"Yes, an actual real life thing. Not just a thing," Thorin said.
They burst out laughing again and Moon stumbled to the other side of the rock to rid herself of the dirty lake water. Whereas Thorin bathed on the side where they had just been talking.
Moon was flushed with excitement and she would have screamed if Thorin wasn't on the other side of the rock.
As soon as she washed all the lake water away, she rinsed out her clothes and put them on wet.
"Thorin, are you done?" asked Moon.
"Yes," he answered. She walked around the rock to see him braiding his hair.
"Oh! Can you braid mine? I mean, I'm well aware of dwarvish courting systems. Not that way but like, you know. I'm just horrible at braiding my hair," she said, her cheeks tinting pink. "That sounded a lot better in my head."
"I know what you mean. Just sit up here," he said, patting the spot beside him. He easily lace braided her hair on both sides back into one, very long, french braid.
"How can you even do that?" she asked, as they made their way back to the town.
"I'll teach you one day, when all of this is over," he answered. Moon smiled but her eyes went red and she stumbled.
"S-Sorry. I just slip up sometimes," said Moon, her eyes going blue again.
"It isn't your fault," said Thorin comfortingly, taking her hand. She smiled again, but it was more tense this time, and they made their way down the docks.
"This is Bard's house," said Thorin, opening the door for her.
"I didn't know before, because all of you were in the armory, but I can definitely smell them now," she laughed.
"OH MAHAL YOUR ENGAGED!" screamed Fili like a girl, running around like a chicken with his head cut off.
"NO WE AREN'T!" screamed Moon over the sound of the dwarves.
"Not yet," said Thorin, making Moon turn pink.
"I don't believe you," said Dwalin, grabbing Moon's head and using Balin's magnifying glass to check her braids.
"Get off me!" she laughed, batting his face with her wings.
She crouched down and held her arms karate style. "Don't come any nearer," she said, trying not to laugh.
Suddenly, a dwarf tackled her from behind. She nipped at Fili's face before kicking out with her legs and sending him sliding across the room.
"Oh that was fun! Do it again!"
She kicked him again and he slid across the ground, knocking over Nori as he went. Eventually, all the dwarves were on the ground. Not a moment later, Bard came in and ordered them away.
"Hey! We can stay at my Aunt Dani's house!" said Moon excitedly, kicking off the ground and flying above them, leading the way.
When they reached the small cottage, Kili collapsed.
"Aunt Dani!" called Moon, knocking on the door rather frantically. Someone opened the door, but it wasn't Aunt Dani. It was a doctor.
"Wh-Where's Aunt Dani?"
"Danielle was your Aunt?" asked the old man. He gently put a hand on her shoulder. "She has just had a heart attack, and I'm sorry to be the one to tell you: she didn't make it."
Moon let out a sob. Her wings unfurled and she launched into the air.
She landed in a tree and screamed at the sky. "Why? Why?" she cried quietly, tears streaming down her face.
"WWWHHHHHYYYY!!!!" she wailed at the top of her lungs, her wings stretched out on either side of her in grief as she collapsed onto the branches of the tree.
She would cry until morning, and things would only get worse from there.
