A loud yell pierced their ears, breaking them off from their trance. Looking up he made eye contact with the eyes he'd known all too well. His eyes went wide in horror and immediately sat up straight. The flowers that rested on top of their heads suddenly disintegrated into thin air within a blink.
The same man he'd encountered on the night he saw Taehyun for the first time.
That's when it hit him that he wasn't wearing his mask or his hat anymore.
Immediately throwing the muffler he'd discarded on the floor, he put it over Taehyun to cover him up. "They already know me. We can't let them see you." he spoke urgently as he wrapped it around him and grabbed him by the hand and ran upstairs from the bridge away from the man who was now chasing them through the streets.
Beomgyu's mind began to blank out. The adrenaline rushing through his veins was the only reason he was able to move— his will to keep Taehyun out of the whole mess and for him to stay safe. It was his top priority.
Grateful enough, Taehyun was able to keep up with Beomgyu's pace as they ran past numerous buildings. Their visions tunneling, focused solely on losing the man behind them blurred out any detail that may have passed by them. Rough winds brushed past the figures in their run; the dim neon lights being their only source of light in the lone street.
After several sharp turns, they finally arrived at a little alley behind a diner. Foul smell from the dumpsters overpowering their senses of smell. Taehyun buried his face deeper into the muffler that Beomgyu covered him in, breathing heavily from their little sprint earlier..
Just like Taehyun, Beomgyu bent down, holding onto his knees for support. Beads of sweat rolled down his face as reality slowly crashed over him, leaving little tracks of silver.
He took a small glance at Taehyun to see if he was alright, he let out a relieved breath. "I'm so sorry you had to experience that." he huffed out. "We must have lost him."
A pang of guilt struck Beomgyu as he remembered Yeonjun telling them about the risks. Despite that, he insisted on going outside and that too with Taehyun. He cursed himself internally for being so selfish.
His heart rate never slowed down even after minutes of stopping in the dark alley.
Taehyun noticed how Beomgyu's hands began shaking as the silver tracks in his palms made themselves more prominent in the dull area. His pupils were blown and his heavy breathing didn't seem to slow down.
Alarmed, Taehyun ran back from behind the dumpster to Beomgyu who nearly collapsed to the dirty floor from exhaustion. He couldn't feel his legs from how hard they were shaking.
"Hyung," he shook the elder male who was shivering like a leaf. "Hyung, look at me, please."
He cupped his cheeks in the palm of his hands and rubbed soothing circles on his skin. "We're alright. He's gone."
Taehyun's frown only grew when Beomgyu didn't respond and slowly curled himself up into a ball closing in on his knees. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." he kept muttering under his breath just like he did when the younger male first saw him.
Collapsing on the rough alleyway next to the long haired boy, Taehyun did the first thing that came to his mind. Spreading his arms, he enveloped the small figure with one arm around his head pulling him closer to his chest and the other rubbed soothing circles into his back.
"It's alright, We're alright. Nothing's gonna happen to us. They won't get to you again." Taehyun tried consoling the shivering boy but he didn't feel his words could do enough to soothe the boy. He needed Yeonjun.
