Head hurts. Need ice cream. Georgia thought to herself as she regained conciousness.
"I think she's waking up." A voice whispered.
Her eyes fluttered open to see the chocolate orbs of Adrian. But for some reason, she saw him differently. Previously, he was a cute guy that she was starting to like. Now he was a handsome man that she knew was meant to be hers, a stirring desire to be his made itself at home.
She sat up slowly, and was soon handed a glass of water. Her neck was stiff, nothing a massage couldn't fix.
"What happened?" She asked no one in particular before sipping the water.
Adrian answered. "You, uh, ascended."
Her eyes widened. She had only just gotten to that part of the book she was reading. "What does that mean exactly?"
"It means that you've come into your witch powers." A voice said. She turned to see Giovanna. "You've also been out for a couple of days." Her eyes flashed to Adrian.
Georgia looked between the two of them. "There's something else, isn't there?"
Adrian sighed. "Rest for now, we'll talk more later."
Her eyes narrowed instantly. "I've done enough resting. Now tell me." Outside thunder clapped as thick grey clouds rolled in.
Sighing in defeat, he had no choice but to tell her. "While you were out, we contacted your parents to let them know of your ascension." He looked into her eyes. "Your ascension triggered something else, Georgia."
She was sitting up straight now.
"I think it's time I told you the rest of the story." Giovanna said.

After a shower, clean set of clothes and a meal, they were all seated together in the lounge, silence hung heavily in the air.
Georgia cleared her throat. "So, how bout them sloths, they sure are cute." She laughed awkwardly. Adrian shook his head.
"I think you should start." He said, leaning back into the couch, his arm around his mates shoulders. Georgia couldn't help but lean into him, and he liked it. Adrian could feel the bond getting stronger.
Giovanna cleared her throat. "As I said last time, your mother had trapped the demon Nazriel. Such a fiesty thing, very angry too, kept cussing your mother out at every opportunity." She shook her head, chuckling at the memory. "Neither of us had known what was to come, that the demon king was on his way, but when he arrived, things were set in motion that could not be stopped."
She paused for a moment, taking a deep breath before continuing.
"It happened fast, Elvira was just about to collect the poisonous saliva that dripped from Nazriel, while I watched in amazement. Then we felt his presence. It was beyond menacing, and set my wolf on edge, I shifted immediately, trying to protect my friend. Nazriel laughed, telling us both that we were in for a world of pain. But Elvira just smiled like she knew a secret, and walked out of this house to meet what I assumed to be certain death. I followed after her, and what I saw threw me off entirely. Elvira Sinclair, with her fist clenched, had Shade Nightingale floating in an unbreakable orb." She stopped to look at Georgia. "Then I heard something I couldn't forget if I tried, it was your mother realising that this man, this demon king, was to be her consort. The language she used was very colourful."
"What the heck is a consort?" Adrian asked, eyebrows raised.
"It's the witch version of a mate, and usually only the women feel it." Georgia answered. She looked into his eyes. "I feel it now." She smiled softly at him as he wore a look of adoration. "Please, continue."
"Right." Giovanna thought carefully before continuing. "Elvira had no choice but to release him from the orb, but before she could, he used his own power to break it. Now that threw your mother off, but it also made him even more appealing to her. I was a mix of emotions. Happy my friend found her love, anxious because the demon king was a few feet away and sad. An interspecies mateship waa essentially illegal back then, unless the mate was human, but your parents fell hard and fell quickly. They weren't afraid to challenge the societal norm and parade their relationship. Many of the witches tried attacking Elvira and Shade, trying to rid the world of their 'diseased companionship' as they called it, but none could succeed. For a time they were left alone, during that time I found my Matteo." Her eyes grew sad as she remembered the mate she lost. "Your parents helped so many creatures that were in what were called 'forbidden entanglements', and that pissed off a lot of old creatures." She stared firmly into Georgia's eyes. "No matter what you eventually hear, your parents did not start the war that lead to our exposure, it was the old council. They wanted to keep things like the old days. Your parents were revolutionary back then."
Georgia felt an ache blossom in her chest. "You tell me these great things about my birth parents, their power and courage, but they weren't brave or courageous enough to keep me?" She was getting angry. "They could take on the world, but they couldn't take on the responsibility of raising me?"
Giovanna was shocked by the sudden outburst. Adrian stood to calm his mate.
"Georgia, look at me." She focussed her eyes on him. "We don't know their reasons. Be wary, be mad for now. But please do not dwell on things that cannot be changed, it'll only make you sick." She melted as her consort soothed her. He was right.
She took a deep breath, turning to Giovanna. "Do you know why they didn't want me?"
"No, I dont." She said. "While they took on the world, my mate and I took on the responsibility of the pack." She looked sad again, and it broke Georgia's heart. "The best people to ask would be the ones that raised you."
It was time for Georgia to invite them over for that dinner they'd suggested. She turned to Adrian.
"Now, this is a one time offer. If you say no, even as a joke, there will be consequences." She said to him. He nodded, encouraging her to continue. "I have a lot on my mind right now, and would like for you to hold me for a while."
His face lit up instantly. "As you wish."
He fell back onto the couch, opening his arms to her.She rolled her eyes but couldn't help the small smile that popped up. Sitting next to him, she got comfortable, resting her head on his chest as he held her, his heart beat calming her instantly and his warmth making her feel safe as his arms wrapped around her.
This was bliss.
"By the way, what the heck is a mating ceremony?"
