Chapter 2/1

I jerked my hand back in surprise.

Mitti

"You were awake? For how long?"

Masamune

"Since before you came in. Now, I've answered your question, so it's your turn to answer mine."

(At least he's not acting suspicious of me like he was earlier.)

Mitti

"The reason you got injured was because you had to come save me. I just feel a little guilty."

Masamune

"I see..."

Masamune locked down in thought.

Masamune

"So it is true."

Mitti

"What is it?"

Masamune

"After you left, I plied Kojuro for information."

"He explained to me that we were- are- lovers."

Mitti

"That's an awfully risque way of putting it, but I guess it's not wrong."

Masamune

"Acording to him, we were so involved, we'd made vows for our future together. Is that correct?"

Mitti

"Yeah... it is."

(He's talking in the past tense... and he really doesn't remember a thing. I guess sleep isn't going to be enough to cure this.)

Faced with the reality, I felt a heavy sinking in my chest.

I tried my besto not to let the crushing disappointment show on my face.

Masamune

"Lass..."

Masamune sat up before taking my hand and pulling me to him.

Cradled in his oh-so-familiar arms, my internal monologue was a series of question marks.

Mitti

"Masamune...?"

He'd called me what he always did, holding me in that way of his... I couldn't help but hope.

Masamune

"I cannot imagine tying myself to a woman."

"Let alone promising a future I've no idea if I will get to live to see."

(Everything we've been through... Everithing he's overcome... He's right back there, at the start line.)

His words took my minuscule hope and crushed it in their metophorical fists. I'd read too much into things insignificant to him now.

Masamune

"That said... if we were lovers, why don't we give a try, hm?"

Mitti

"Uh... Give what a try?"

Suddenly, there was the strength and warmth of a hand on the back of my head and a pair of lips moving dangerously close to my own.
