I was recovering in my room from the vicious wound down my arm when Mitti returned.

Her apology was vexing, particularly since she didn't seem to think I was awake to hear it.

Masamune

"After you left, I plied Kojuro for information."

"He explained to me that we were- are- lovers."

Mitti

"That's an awfully risque way of putting it, but I guess it's not wrong."

Masamune

"According to him, we were so involved, we'd made vows for our future together. Is that correct?"

Mitti

"Yeah... It is."

This woman, who I was apparently in a relationship with, stood there avoiding my eyes, voice shaking.

She looked like she might cry, and that was something I couldn't abide.

Masamune

"Lass..."

I sat up, taking her hand in mine and pulling her to me before she knew what to expect.

Mitti

"Masamune...?"

I might not know who she was, but she was awfully cute when she said my name like that. I owed her the truth.

Masamune

"I cannot imagine tying myself to a woman."

"Let alone promising a future I've no idea if I will get to live to see."

Mitti was silent, and I didn't know her well enough to interpret that silence, though I supposed she was disappointed.

(Why does she make that face? Surely, as my lover, she knows this much about me.)

Knowing my truth was hard on her sent an inexplicable pang through my chest.

Masamune

"That said... if we were lovers, why don't give that a try, hm?"

Mitti

"Uh... Give what a try?"

I gently cupped the back of her head, her lips a temptation I saw no reason to resist.

Mitti's eyes went halp-lidded, sliding closed as our lips touched, but I kept my eye open to watch her reactions.

(She's as sweet as a kitten. I think she's even purring.)

For good measure, I held her lip between my teeth as I reaseased her- but to my surprise, she followed, claiming my lips in turn.

(Was I really in a relationship with this woman?)

I didn't know. I couldn't remember.

All I knew was that I loved the feel of her in my arms and had to stop myself from diving in for more when we finally parted.

Masamune

"You're a saucy little lass, aren't you?"

"You must love me quite a lot."

I chose my words carefuly, prodding for intel.

(What makes her so different from all the other women I've been with in the past?)

Mitti

"Yeah, you big dolt... I really do love you."
