I wish to live a life that causes my soul to dance inside my body.
"How long do you think the federal case will take?" Will asked after he had turned on the fireplace and set up the balcony.
"This is a pretty high priority case, so they won't want it to stay open for too long. My best guess is a week, but Nic and I agreed that I would only be working the case against Kino Oil as a whole. The cases against the heads of the company will be handled by a federal prosecutor," Mack replied as Will helped her take her makeup off.
"Really?" Will asked in surprise.
"Yeah, the short trials and how long it takes to get a trial date is a lot of the reason that people lack faith in the American justice system," she sighed.
Will could see that Mack already wanted to move to San Diego and get away from all the pain she had gone through in New York. He didn't know all of Mack's secrets, trauma, and memories, but Will knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life understanding her. Reggae quietly played from the speakers as Will finished Mack's nightly skincare routine. Mackenzie could see that Will was deep in thought as he cared for her, and she knew they were both thinking about the same thing. New York held too much pain for the pair, and it was time to start over.
"I can always fly back for the trial," Mack suggested, unable to hold off until they were outside.
"Now, who's impatient?" Will chuckled, finishing up with her moisturizer.
"I'm ready to leave the East Coast. When I was in California, I seriously considered just staying and having my parents bring the twins to me. I stopped feeling safe in New York a very long time ago. I feel like it is unfair for the kids to get an anxious mom instead of the one they got in San Diego," Mack replied truthfully.
"Then we're doing it. Spring break is next week; I have enough saved up to not work until the fall semester. Cole is more than capable of teaching the rest of the semester," Will spoke as they snuggled into the blankets in front of the fire.
"I want to work less. Tez and Phina deserve the type of parents that my brothers and I grew up with. Mom was always home before us if she wasn't able to pick us up from school, and Dad was there for every single event of ours," she spoke honestly, looking up into Will's eyes.
"I love that idea. We definitely need to slow down on work for the kids, and I would love to have at least one with you in a couple of years. Have you ever thought about leaving law since it isn't what you really wanted to do?" he asked as Mack pulled out her phone.
"In an ideal world, I would open my own dance studio or maybe even get into content creating. I don't know, but I do feel like I need a career change once we're out in San Diego," Mack replied shyly, "This is my place in San Diego."
Will took the tablet from Mack and noticed three listings open in safari. He looked up at her in confusion as Mack started to laugh hysterically. When Mack was still competing, her winnings weren't always money; sometimes, they were vehicles, property, and trips. Mack just never told anyone about those prizes, not even family. Most of the cars she sold and that money was invested, but Mack took her time deciding what to do with the houses.
