*PLEASE PLEASE READ THIS IT IS SOOOO IMPORTANT*
I have so much to say and I honestly won't be surprised if i'm crying before this is over. you probably will too.
I think I'm going to say my thank you's first. Thank every single one of you who stuck around and voted and commented. you got me to the highest achievement I've ever reached writing a book. you put a lot of confidence in me and kept me going. I'm also so thankful most everyone reading has realized the effect and causes and circumstances and varieties of rape. thank you for reading, it makes me feel like I've actually helped this community.
there's a lot I want to address and it might take a while, but please please read it all.
1) something that I need to stress: girls are not the only ones who can be raped. 1 in 4 girls are molested and 1 in 6 boys are molested. it's a bigger issue than we treat it as. we need to realize that men have this issue also and include them in the fight for an end.
2) the reason I wrote this book was to raise awareness. our community here on wattpad promotes rape culture more than anything I've ever seen. authors continue to write books about their fave forcing the girl to do something that she doesn't want to, and the only thing anyone is focused on is "OMG WHY IS SHE REFUSING? ITS FREAKING HARRY STYLES!2!2!" like please stop. realize that if you were in that situation, you wouldn't care who it was, you wouldn't want to be pressured to do something you don't want to do.
3) there are different levels of sexual harassment. there is the kind where someone is just forcing you to kiss them. there is the kind where someone is touching you where you don't want them to. there is the kind where they tell you what they want to do to you. there is the kind where they force themselves upon you. please, realize that there are all different levels of this issue and it all fits under this big umbrella.
4) along with that, there are different reactions and coping methods to this occurrence. I had someone comment that connor was being a whiney bitch when she made the video, but I don't think she understood that she wasn't. Connor was in a very serious relationship with harry. they were together for about 6 years and she poured everything she had into that relationship and relied on him, only for him to make one life-changing mistake. some people get over it within months. some go as far as suicide. it just depends on the relationship and the person. I just made it more serious because I wanted to stress the long-lasting effects.
4) just because you don't say no doesn't mean you are saying yes. if no one noticed, connor never told harry no, but she did tell him to stop. that doesn't mean that she wanted him to take a break and start again, she wanted him away from her.
5) a problem we have in this society is that the victim is blamed with their choice of clothing, but I think that is wrong. we shouldn't be in trouble for looking good. the only way to stop rape is to tell the rapists not to rape.
6) anyone can be a rapist. you could. he could. she could. your mom. your dad. your teacher. your cousin. your boyfriend. your girlfriend. your best friend. your son. your daughter. your sister. your brother. the possibilities are endless.
7) most rapes aren't even reported. most rapists don't even go to jail. most rapes go without any word spoken. most male victims do not report their rapists.
if any questions have somehow sparked in you, do not be afraid to ask them, they will be answered in the questions/ answers part. thank you and I love you. (playlist up next!) for more info on this subject, see PSA by chinavase "Rape Culture"
