Jack Barakat was unlucky. His luck ran thin after his dog died. Man, jack was distraught. He hadn't thought straight ever since that day and never had a good day since. That was about five years ago. Jack's unluckiness ranged from spilt coffees down his lap while he worked to walking into obvious walls and doors. But jack had grown accustomed to it now. He just dealt with the humiliation that coupled with his embarrassing traits. Jack was just clumsy as far as he was concerned.
So one afternoon as jack was sat typing furiously away at his laptop on his office desk, his chair snapped from underneath him. Jack fell to the floor in a crumpled heap, but, his leg got caught up in the wire that charged his laptop. The laptop fell with jack and landed on the Lebanese man's head. It was a worrying situation for jack, but as always, his luck was just not on his side. But luck wasn't always on everyone's side.
Nobody bothered on checking on Barakat as this was no abnormal thing for their clumsy work colleague to experience, they all carried on at their desks, typing furiously like jack had done minutes before. Jack had just had enough at this point. He gathered his bag and shoved his laptop into its case. He slung both bags over his shoulder and left the building. He gained a few stares in response but nothing that jack couldn't handle. Nobody tried to stop him and that was the main thing.
Jack didn't really have anywhere to go, so he decided to go to the most dangerous place on earth for him, but also the most deliciously amazing place. The coffee shop next door.

Alex Gaskarth was unlucky. He was as unlucky as they came. In school, he was always the kid that tripped over his shoe laces and the kid who snapped their pencil lead by simply just placing the nib on the paper. As Alex grew older, his luck did not change, he would lose bets frequently, he always messed up everything, Alex just couldn't seem to get things right. Sure you could pin this to the fact that Alex gaskarth was just unfortunate or it was coincidental. No, Alex was set on the idea that he was just unlucky. There was no other explanation.
Alex didn't even have a job he was that unlucky. He went for his interview and yet the hiring manager not only turned Alex down but Alex messed up everything for that interview. He didn't say the things that he had on his little cue cards, he dropped all the papers on the floor after tripped on nothing but air, he started choking on his own spit midway. Again, all normal mistakes and situations with normal explanations, but Alex refused to believe that it wasn't unluckiness. The hiring manager refused to even consider Alex as a potential candidate by the end so Alex was to go home jobless and feeling crushed by the weight of his bad luck.
Yet, Alex didn't feel like going home yet. He didn't want to feel encompassed by the previous events. He just wanted some coffee. Was that too much for a man to ask? Alex had never really had bad experiences with coffee, his bad luck never usually fell there. He should be okay today.
Alex straightened his suit that he borrowed from his brother for today and left for the coffee shop next door to the building he had just interviewed in. His bag was slung over his shoulder and trundled his way towards the entrance. It was a huge complex made of glass and metal. It was a pleasing building to see for the eye. The cafe next door just looked puny compared to the office block. But Alex liked that. He liked how small it was in comparison. It gave an almost child like feel to it, a warm and cosy vibe.
Alex sighed as he opened the door and heard a small ring of a bell. Surprisingly, Alex had never been in here before and that was a surprise as Alex was always one for cafe touring. He loved coffee shops almost as much as he loved his hair. And that was a lot mind you.
Alex took a brief look around his surroundings and took in the warm feel the cafe radiated. It looked a lot like a Costa from the inside, Alex wouldn't be surprised if it was under a similar chain.
