Alex was supposed to be dead. Alex died. Jack watched him. Jack watched Alex die, and yet, Alex was very much alive.
"Jacky?" Alex muttered under his breath. His voice was distant and far away, but he was still speaking. "Jacky, why can't I feel anything?" Alex continued. Jack just stood there staring. Alex was meant to be dead.
"What the fuck do you mean 'you can't feel anything'?" Jack snapped, feeling a little worried and scared. But he shouldn't be. This was Alex, wasn't it? "You fell off of the fucking cliff! Your body is literally down on the rocks." Jack shouted. He walked over to the rocks below to see the body of Alex Gaskarth on the cliff side. He wasn't imagining that, that was for sure. This bit, he wasn't so sure.
"Jacky?" Alex tried.
"No Alex!" Jack spat. "You're just my imagination. I'm just picturing this. You aren't actually alive. This is my grief. You are dead. And I'm delirious." Jack let out a small laugh, which completely contradicted the tears falling down his face.
"Jacky." Alex said, reaching out for jack's face and stroking his cheek with his thumbs. "Jacky, I'm still here."
"I know. I can see that!" Jack curled away from Alex's hand and folded into himself, sobbing on a stone that was on the cliff. This was jack's fault. He never should have brought Alex up here. He was planning on making Alex his for the rest of his life, but the cliff fell away from underneath Alex. This was jack's fault. He didn't understand how he could still feel Alex. If Alex was a ghost then he shouldn't be able to, and if Alex was only a figment of his imagination, then he also shouldn't be able to feel him either.
"Jacky. It's okay, we'll be okay."
"How can we Alex?!" Jack swiped the figure of his boyfriend's hand away from his shoulder. "You're just my imagination."
"I think you know I'm not, jack." Alex's voice became sterner. Jack just sighed. Tears still running down his face.
"I just want you to come back Alex."
"I am back jack. I'm here." Alex had moved to the front of jack now and ran a hand through jack's short hair. Alex had always loved doing that. He bent down to plant a soft kiss on jack's lips and jack could feel every tingle and sensation that Alex gave him. Jack never thought he'd be able to feel Alex like that ever again. Jack leant back in, holding onto the back of Alex's head. Jack's fingers didn't fade through Alex's form, it stood solid, though he could faintly see the shadow of his fingers behind Alex. And yet, it still hadn't freaked jack out so much yet.
Alex felt warm against jack's skin. He felt alive and living. But he couldn't be. It was impossible. And yet Alex stood there as alive as the rain. Jack then moved his hands downwards across Alex, feeling him to confirm his suspicions. Alex shivered at the touch and leant closer to jack. Jack's hands moved effortlessly from Alex's hair to his neck, where he planted another soft kiss to Alex's face. From his neck to his shoulders, his shoulders to his chest and waist, before finishing at the small of Alex's back. Alex just smiled. Jack never failed to make Alex feel needed and wanted in life. He was the only person to ever make Alex feel like that. He never wanted to ever leave jack. Jack was as much a part of him as the moon was a part of the earth. They needed each other, and if they didn't have each other, the world would fall into chaos. Jack just sighed. "So where are we going to go from here?" He asked, rubbing the bridge of his nose and still not quite believing what he was admitting to.
"I don't know jack. I don't know." Alex spoke. His voice still distant, and yet so close altogether. Jack didn't know what to do.
"Could you feel me?" He decided on.
"Like the rain on my face." Alex replied. Jack just smiled. Alex was always one for using metaphors in everyday speech. I suppose that was the perks of being a big lyricist. Alex swooped back in for another kiss that jack blocked teasingly, holding one finger to Alex's lips and lightly pressing to stop the undead male from colliding with him. Jack smirked devilishly, making Alex gulp in fright of what jack had up his sleeves. But instead, jack just pulled Alex in for a hug. He held both of Alex's cheeks and placed a soft kiss on his forehead before returning to the hug.
Alex was now laying on jack's lap, staring at the sky as jack held him and stroked his hair. Alex wouldn't usually allow anyone to push his hair out of his face, but jack was different. Jack wouldn't tease Alex about his massive forehead. Jack was sweet and kind and Alex wanted just as much as anyone to finally be with jack forever. He was hoping to finally ask jack to be his, before the cliff collapsed.
Alex couldn't exactly remember his death. He remembered watching the cliff fall away from his feet and crumbling. He remembered jack's horrified face. He remembered the crack in the side of the cliff that ran through jack's feet. He remembered jack.
Dear god, Alex remembered jack. Jack fell. Not long after Alex, but jack fell. Alex could feel tears sting his face as he continued to remember jack's expression. The fear in jack's eyes as he made a reach for alex. The moment when they finally interlocked fingers and Alex's back cracked against the rocks. They had died holding hands. That's as far as Alex's memory went. Jack obviously didn't remember.
Alex stood up abruptly and paced the cliffs edge a little. His arms folded behind his back in thought. Jack just sighed and watched his dead boyfriend. "Lexi?" Jack started but Alex shushed him. It would make sense for jack to be dead too. That would explain why they could both still see each other and feel one another.
Alex took his pacing closer to the serrated edge and peered over the side of the cliff, much like jack had earlier on. Jack was still sat on his rock watching Alex with intent, questioning exactly what his dead boyfriend thought he was doing. Alex glared curiously, almost wishing not to find what it was he was looking for. He found his previous body, still lying where it had been found previously and where Alex remembered falling. He scouted around further desperately searching for a figure like jack's.
And that's when he spotted it. A small figure floating out at sea, it was the figure of a man and they were long and lanky by the looks of it. Jack. Alex's face dripped with sudden, new tears as he turned back to his boyfriend. Jack, concerned, plodded over like a puppy on a lead. He placed a hand on Alex's shoulder and planted a small kiss on his forehead. "What's wrong?" He asked. Alex just kept staring. He couldn't bring himself to tell jack.
Instead, Alex pointed. He found the small body on the horizon, not far from his own and motioned for jack to look too. "Alex.." jack's voice quivered, after something clicked in his mind. "Alex, I'm.."
"Jack," Alex started, grabbing the sides of jack's face and bringing it close to his own. Staring at his person deep in the eyes and searching for some kind of escape. He couldn't find any. Jack knew. "Jacky, you are as alive to me as I am to you. As long as we have each other, nothing could go wrong now." Alex assured, before kissing the tip of jack's nose. Jack smiled.
Nothing could go wrong. Or so they thought.
