I'm Sorry, But I Love You (Bronja)

Bro fiddled with his hands as Ninja sat casually next to him, sipping a drink.  There was something on the TV, but Bro wasn't paying much attention.  He had decided before going to Ninja's house that today would be the day Bro confessed.  Problem was, he kept delaying it- now, he planned to do so after this episode went off. 

Bro was terrified for that moment.  Admitting he had a crush on his best friend to himself was like a love confession in and of itself. He had accepted he was gay- but accepting that he was in love with his (male) best friend was something else entirely.  It was another hurdle on the road to self acceptance.

But Bro really did love Ninja. 

He felt like an idiot for it, but he did.

And he felt even more like an idiot for planning to tell him.  Nothing would ever happen.  Ninja would probably laugh at him.  But somehow, he wanted to tell Ninja- the thought of them being together made his heart beat so fast that going longer without telling him how he felt was unbearable.

Even though, the thought of losing his friendship with Ninja was also unbearable.

Bro tried to calm his nerves and assure himself.  If he truly thought about it, instead of letting either whimsical dreams or terrifying paranoia take over, he thought that Ninja wouldn't want to be with him at all, but would remain his friend.  There would be some awkwardness, but he had let his feelings out, and could now move on.

The episode went off.  It was hard to tell if Ninja liked it, as usual, but Bro assumed he did.  Bro took a deep, shaky breath.

Ninja looked over.  "(Is there something wrong, Bro?)"

Bro looked at Ninja.  "Nah."

Ninja nodded and took another sip of his drink.  He didn't need to speak much.

"Uh, actually," Bro said, somehow maintaining his composure.  "I was uh, thinking of telling you something."

Ninja looked at Bro to urge him to continue. 

"First off, I'm really sorry.  It wasn't my intention for this to happen," Bro chuckled awkwardly.  Ninja's facial expression changed to one of curiosity and worry.

Bro scratched behind his neck.  "What I'm trying to say is... I'm sorry, but... I love- have feelings for you."

"(Oh, Bro...) "Ninja said, with a sympathetic tone.  Was it pity? 

Bro cringed.  "I'm sorry man.  Your friendship means a lot to me... I don't want to ruin that."

"(What about a romantic relationship?)" Ninja smiled.

"W-what?" Bro stuttered.  "I- I assumed you wouldn't be into that at all."

"(You assumed wrong,)" Ninja gently said.  "(I have feelings for you as well.)"

Bro's face visibly lit up.  "Seriously?  You're not fucking with me?"

"(I wouldn't do that with this,)" Ninja said.  "(Being with you is an important thing to me.)"

"So, wait- are we like, together?" Bro said.  He couldn't contain his smile and Ninja thought it was adorable.

"(If you want to be, I would be happy to date you,)"Ninja said, his own face lighting up. 

"Woah!" Bro said loudly.  He pumped his fists. 

Ninja giggled.  It was the cutest sound Bro had ever heard, and he had to take a moment to process it.  He then beamed again, his smile continuing to grow more and more every minute.

"(But, Bro)" Ninja then sounded more serious.  "(Why would you apologize about it?)"

"I just, I wanted to make sure you wouldn't get mad," Bro said shyly.  "Just didn't know how you'd react since I'm a guy."

"(I understand,)" Ninja nodded.  He then smiled again and got closer to Bro.

The huge smile returned to Bro's face, even though he felt embarrassed about Ninja getting closer, it was a good embarrassed.  His face hurt. 

"(I love you)" Ninja said, grinning.  Bro got even more embarrassed.  But he knew he did truly love Ninja.

"(I...uh... love you too!)"
