"Stevie, please?" James begged, giving his best puppy dog eyes.

"No, Buck." Steve sighed, "Besides, how would we even have time for a kid when we're always on missions and stuff?"

James huffed out a breath, trying to figure out another way to get a kid. For the longest time he's wanted a child, someone else he could look forward to being with, to hold, to protect. Ever since he and Steve got married that's all he could ever think about. Sure, there'd be times where they wouldn't be home, on missions or out of town. But they wouldn't be gone forever, they'd still be there for them, they wouldn't abandon them, they wouldn't leave them alone, they'd be there like parents should be for their child. He knew about all the mess in his life, how the one thing he got was Steve, but now he was asking- no- begging the universe for one more gift. One more thing to hold onto.

"Stevie," James sighed, gaining his husband's attention, "...Please."

Steve sighed, finally setting down his book and shifting on their bed. His back leaning against the back board of their bed and his blue eyes trained on the Soldier infront of him. Watching as he was litterally begging, on his knees, a frown on his face, and a glimmer of hope in his eyes.

"If I do say yes, and we do infact get a child, what do we do then? Hm?" Steve questioned, crossing his arms over his chest, getting comfortable in bed.

"We would take care of them. Like parents should, we'd be the best one's ever, and we'd protect them. Like we do eachother." James answered, almost immediately, his hope slightly rising with each word, "I promise Stevie, nothing will harm them, we'd help eachother with taking care of them, we'd finally be parents."

There was a long pause in the room. Steve kept his eyes on his husband, he believed James, without a doubt. But, there was that part of him that thought this was a bad idea, like everything could turn at this point. James shuffled a bit closer, he was within arms reach of Steve, his Ocean blue eyes boring into his soul.

Steve sighed, closing his eyes, "Fine."

"Seriously?!" James asked, shooting up from his knees, "Like...really? You're going along with this?"

Taking a deep breath, Steve opened his eyes to look at James. A smile was plastered on his face, it lit up his eyes that were full of Joy, a look Steve wanted to keep on his face.

"Yes." Steve nodded, "Seriously."

James let out a relived sigh, jumping on his husband and peppering his face in kisses. Steve chuckled, scrunching his nose up as he playfully pushed James off him. James chuckled, flopping on his back. He was going to get another chance at this, to make things perfect for him and Steve, to make things right with his life.

"So." Steve spoke, grabbing his book again, "Boy or Girl?"

James froze, eyes wider than plates.

"Gi..b-...w-what?" James stuttered, sitting up.

"Gender, babe." Steve said, in a obvious tone, "What gender?"

"I-I didn't think of a gender." James admitted, sounding a little ashamed.

"Really?" Steve asked, bringing down his book and raising an eyebrow, "This whole time, the begging, the pleading, the excitement? And you mean to tell me you've been asking for a child this entire time and not once have you thought about the gender?"

James gulped, ashamed that he hasn't thought of this. He hesitantly nodded, hoping it wouldn't change his mind nonetheless.

"Well," Steve chuckled, getting back to his book, "Figure out the gender and get back to me. Think hard now, don't just pick one out of the blue just because, okay?"

Nodding, James stood up and left their shared bedroom. He walked the halls of the Tower deciding between a boy or a girl, he couldn't believe himself. How could he have done all that to get Steve on his side, and not know what gender he wanted? He had no idea of the ups and downs of a child, he needed help, he needed advice.

"Sam?" James called, knocking on his door, "Can we talk? I have a question."

Opening the door, Sam was met with James, rubbing his eyes as he adjusted to the light out in the hallway.

"Yeah, sure. Come in." Sam greeted, closing the door behind James.

He turned on a lamp before sitting in his game chair, awaiting James' question.

"So...Steve's letting me get us a child." James started, already getting Sam to choke on air.

Sam grabbed a near by water bottle, chugging it down in one go. Once he finally got his throat back, he took a deep breath, preparing for what stupidity James had for him today. Since the battle between Steve and Tony happened, Sam's gotten closer with James without realizing it. They started talking more, starting from insults to normal conversation, to talking buddies then finally to friends. Maybe one of eachothers best.

"Buck," Sam uttered, clearing his throat, "You're not seriously thinking of getting a child are you? I mean, what will Tony say? Or the rest?"

"Who cares? Their mine." James argued, sighing, "I just...I need advice."

"Okay." Sam breathed, "On what? And it better not be anything related to toasting your underwater."

James shook his head, "No, no. Besides, I already perfected it. But, no, that's not what I came to ask. I came to ask advice on what gender is best..."

"Sorry, come again. What gender?" Sam asked, earning a nod from James, "This whole time and no gender?"

"I know, okay! That's what I came to ask you, idiot!"

Sam chuckled, spinning around in his chair, "Okay, okay. Uh, well, do you know the pros and cons of this question?"

James shook his head.

"Alright, so you'll have to know them first in order to know what gender you want." Sam answered, clapping his hands together.

"Okay, hit me."

"First off, getting a girl does include protecting her from creepy jerks, going through her 'issues', mood swings, most of the time complaining, and overall your fridge being empty half the time."

James blinked a couple times, as if he was in a cartoon, "Any...good things?"

Sam chuckled, "Of course. She'd be your baby girl, do it right and she'll make you smile any day, she'd most likely protect you after getting to know you, or she'd just straight up be real with you. I don't know all of them but there are perks."

"Okay." James nodded, "What about getting a boy?"

"Ah, tricky. Well, there's wrestling half the time, doing something reckless all the time, hyping him up for him first date, making sure he isn't a Heartbreaker, and turning him into a gentlemen. A real trustworthy guy." Sam sighed, taking a few moments to let James process.

"Bad things?" James asked, curious.

"He's a boy." Sam groaned, "Chances are, he'll be like all the other guys around here. Worthless. But, that's if you don't raise him right."

Nodding, James stood up and gave a pat on Sam's shoulder in Thanks, leaving his room. He had his answer, and his answer wasn't because of the bad or good things about that gender, it was because he always wanted to have them in his family.
