"So, do you have your answer?" Steve asked, drying his hair with his towel.
James came to a stop, taking in his husband's current condition. Droplets of water ran down his bare chest, his blonde hair was damp as it stuck to his forehead, and a towel wrapped around his lower waist, exposing his V-line. James had to force himself to look Steve in the eyes, mentally slapping himself each time he failed. Steve noticed and only chuckled, the vibrations of his laugh sent shivers down James' spine.
"I'll ask again since you seem distracted." Steve smirked, practically towering of James, "Did you pick a gender?"
James swallowed, "Y-yeah. I did."
Steve crossed his arms over his chest, water fell from his neck down to his arms and James couldn't help but blush madly. After a minute of silence, Steve unfolded his arms and stared at James, growing a bit impatient.
"Well?" Steve spoke, his eyebrows raised in question.
James met his gaze, "Huh? O-oh yeah. Uhm, I want to get a girl...please."
"And you've thought about this?" Steve mumbled, walking over to their closet.
"Yeah. Wasn't really much to think about since I've always wanted a girl, and I still do so...yeah. A girl." James answered, calming himself.
"Going once." Steve said, grabbing a shirt as he was met with silence, "Going twice.....done deal."
James smiled.
"Any specific age?" Steve uttered, as he pulled his shirt over his head.
His smile fell, "Seriously?!"
"Yes, Buck!" Steve chuckled, "Wow. You really didn't think about this did you? Like at all?"
James groaned, rubbing his forehead, "You know what? I want a teenager."
Steve paused, eyes wide, "A teenager? Really?"
"Yes." He nodded.
"You know what your getting yourself into?"
"Yes."
"You want one that's like...16?"
James bit the inside of his cheek, "No. More like 13 or 14. So you know, there's time."
"For what?"
"To make time with her."
Steve nodded, pulling on a pair of shorts, slipping on his shoes, and grabbing his keys.
"Let's go." Steve smiled, taking James' hand.
"Now?" James froze, staring at Steve in shock.
"Yes, now. We got ID's, they'll do a quick background check, and we have Tony's credit card. It'll be easy to just do it now." Steve answered, dragging him to the elevator.
"But what about the government? Legal papers?" James questioned, beginning to sweat.
"Don't worry, Buck." Steve sighed, pulling him in for a hug, "I got that under control, okay? You just pick who you want and we'll be a little family that you've always wanted."
"Our little family?" James asked, burying his face in the crook of Steve's neck.
Steve nodded, rubbing his back in reassurance, "Our little family."
The elevator dinged, signaling the two men to get on. Steve pulled back, grabbing James hand, and walked into the elevator. The whole car ride, James was freaking out. He didn't know if this was the right decision anymore, he didn't know if their new family member would like him, he didn't know the first thing about taking care of a child, and he definitely didn't make room for their new kid in the Tower. Steve parked the car and got out, James right behind him. They reached the front desk of the orphanage, a lady no older than 30 was behind the desk, her face in her papers.
