After a week of this, I already got used to it. My daily routines with the blob became a part of my no-more-ordinary life and with each day, he took more and more place in my heart. And living with him wasn't the only thing I had to get used to, I also had to get used to him sleeping with me and well, ya know…
Today, I decided to take him out, well, since he didn't leave my house for a whole week. During these 7 days, I saw that he loves nature and everything related to it, so my take was for us to go to one special place. You see, there's this park where in this time of year, moon flowers bloom. Today would be the day of the full moon so I am taking him tonight to see it. I can't wait for his tiny little body to roll down the moon flowers field and absorb all its fragrances.
But first I needed to do some research and translate some documents. I was preparing for college so I needed to give my everything if I wanted to be one of the students that got in.
I was situated at the table in my living room, books and important documents all over it. I had my laptop on, it was running some complex decoding program. After five hours of non-stop work and a couple more to come, I needed a break. I was so tired I collapsed on the table. That's when I felt my blob rubbing at my side. When I glanced at him he was smiling at me with a reassuring look.
"Haha, come here." I scooped him in my lap and positioned him so that he could watch. I launched a program for translating but there was a part I needed to do myself manually. Surprisingly, the blob didn't seem bothered or bored, I think he actually quite enjoyed it, especially the coding part.
"Hey b-"
At that moment I realized that for a whole week I have been calling this little fella 'a blob', 'the blob', 'my blob', no actual real names. Did he have a name?
I tilted my head and poked at his side, to get his attention. He turned and just blinked in a way of saying I got his attention. Adorable.
"Hey, um… Do you have a name?" He just blinked at me, his smile never ceasing. "Do you know what a name is?"
His tiny head turned to face the glowing screen again, searching for something. When he found it, he let out a squeal and pointed his head at one part of the text.
I leaned in and read that part.
"Like a dream that flew through mind,
Him just going and never passing by,
And even in the darkness of the night,
Praying to the skies, for that precious time to be rewind."Hm, there were a lot of nouns. Guess we'll have to go through all of them. I wonder which one it is.
So I started from the bottom.
" Time? " He shook his head, a serious expression gracing his features.
" Precious? Sky? " Again, a double 'no'.
I sighed and leaned closer, "Ummm, Night ?" No.
"Mind?" A big 'no'.
There was only one left. "Dream?"
I was surprised as the blob started jumping in my lap and screaming in a high pitched voice. I guess we found the name.
So Dream, huh?
"Dream?" He immediately looked at me, his eyes wide and full of happiness. I didn't miss the way his eyes softened and something deep within started melting. He made some quiet squealing sound, his voice so soft and gentle. I couldn't turn my eyes away from him. I was lost in those deep black orbs and somehow I knew exactly what he said. He wanted me to repeat his name. "Dream." I said in a much softer way and as I did, one of his eyes flinched and I could swear I saw some water in them. He loved the way his name sounded on my lips. I couldn't ever know how long he waited for this moment and how much he wished for it.
With one more squeal, he pressed his head against my chest and I swear I felt a few small water drops on my skin. Still in a daze, I embraced him and planted a kiss on his head. "Dream, huh? That's a beautiful name, you know. It really suits you."I whispered against his head which caused him to rub his cheeks against me even more now. It was like he was trying to escape embarrassment which didn't exist. I waited for him to stop crying because obviously he didn't want me to see him crying, he was too proud.
When I felt he was done and would be okay, I turned him around and looked at him. He was just innocently looking at me. I leaned down and kissed both his cheeks, tasting his salty tear remains and when I lifted my head I could almost swear that he blushed a hard red for a second before clearing his throat and averting his gaze.
I just blinked it away, my imagination was really making fun of me right now.

In a few hours, I finished decoding and translating and with a blob sitting quietly in my lap, the job felt a lot easier and time flew faster.
I put the blob on the floor and started stretching my back. All day was spent on this and my back wasn't so happy about it. I knew that it wasn't healthy to be in one position for so long but I had no choice. Now, I need to go and lay for a bit and then we can go to the park. It was already dusk, so the timing was perfect.
"I'm gonna go and relax for a bit-"
But just as I started walking away, blob's - Dream… Dream's voice made me turn to look at him.
To my surprise, he was still looking at my work and the program I just ran.
He was holding a pen in his mouth and writing something down on the paper. Wait. He-he can write?! I shook my head. Nevermind… just ignore it.
Approaching him, I saw a messy head-writing. My brows furrowed. He wrote a part of my code. "What is this?" He looked at me and squealed. He pointed at the paper with his pen and then at the screen. "Yes, this is what I finished a minute ago." He shook his head violently, his brows furrowing. Dropping the pen and now taking the other end in his mouth, he tapped on the keyboard with it.
As he pressed enter, the program started running but then it suddenly stopped. "What?! Why is it not working?!" I took the laptop in my arms and tried to run it again only to find it failing again. "No! I've spent a whole day on it, please I can't do this all over again!" But to no avail, it still didn't work. I groaned in frustration. I could break this laptop right now. I felt like crying. Ten hours of work wasted.
I dropped to my knees, put the laptop in its original place and put my face into my hands. I can't believe this was happening. What did I do wrong?
But then I felt Dream poking my elbow. As I lifted my eyes slightly to look at him, I saw him jump to the screen at once again point at one specific spot. Then he again changed the position of his pen and started circling one spot on the paper he used. Eyes narrowing and my mind starting to realize something, I lifted myself up and looked at what he was pointing at.
Screen. Paper.
Screen. Paper.
"Ahhh!" I gasped. "Did-Did you… HOW DID YOU, HEEEEH?! Dream, I-"
I started typing on my keyboard and in the next minute, when I ran the program, it worked. My mouth was wide open, face brighter than the shining star. I scooped him into my arms and started spinning around and jumping.
"Dreaaaam! Ahahaa, you saved me! How, in the name of the world, did you know to write an exact code?! You saw my mistake and fixed it! That's complex coding stuff I learned for years!"
He only blinked, smiling proudly. "Oh, no you don't sir, don't treat me with a silent treatment. Come on, spill out your secret." I joked.
In the whole commotion of happiness, I failed to acknowledge the fact that he just: a) wrote, b) wrote a complex programming code, c) didn't have bad head-writing.
I mean, did he learn how to do that just by looking at me!?
He must be a kind of blob that's intelligent in nature. Wait. Are there any blobs like Dream? Or is he the only one? I will ask him one day but not now. I don't want to know. Because if I do, I will have to let go of him sooner. He might have a family up there waiting for him, worried sick. The mere thought of that made my insides twist.
