Alessandra Drakkon

Queen of the Drakkon Empire

I shiver feeling the coldness of space, pulling the blanket up higher I sigh in relief as the heat begins to return, wait blanket? What? Wasn't I in space? Didn't I get thrown from my shuttle and out into open space? Was I in heaven? Hell? Where was I? I peel open one eye and take a small peek around, unsure of where I am, my eyes lock onto a familiar head of brown hair. "Kalo?" His name comes out of my mouth without me even meaning to say it, but its like me saying a single word woke him from his sleep, his head shoots up from where it was lying on the bed, and he looks at me with shock and hope.

"Alessandra? You're awake?" His hand tightens against mine and that movement is the only thing that makes me realize he has been holding my hand since before I was awake.

"Where are we? What happened? How am I not dead?" I look around the room in confusion, beautiful stone pillars held up the ceiling, metal lattice work covered the windows and all the lights casting bewitching shadows. Gauzy white fabric hung from the windows and around parts of the bed, a thick rug with a beautiful design covered much of the floor, I was lying in the bed, which was strange because on Drakkon they used anti-gravity devices to make you float for the best sleep.

"We're on Morgane the capital planet of my empire, in my palace. It's been three days since I found you floating out there in space, I thought you would never wake up." I stop staring around me in confusion and look back at him.

"But how did you save me? I remember that I was floating in space, without a suit, I should've been dead by the time you got there." I knew I could survive a lot, but I didn't think I would be able to survive open space without a suit, I may be strong, but I wasn't that strong.

"Ah, yes. Well, Numa did help with that. He kept you alive long enough for me to come rescue you. He's charged me with protecting you and fixing my mistakes." He met Numa? Spoke to him? What mistakes was he talking about? This was all so strange, too much had happened while I was asleep.

"What mistakes are you talking about? What have you done that Numa took notice of?" He looks down, seeming ashamed, as if he couldn't meet my gaze, which meant it had to do with me. "What? What did you do, Kalo?" My mind flitted through all manner of possible mistakes he might have made, but none of them seemed all that serious to me, after all I had already found out his worst mistakes right?

"I am, I am the reason your father hates you so much." I look at him with a raised eyebrow, bewildered by his answer to what mistake he had made.

"What do you mean you're the reason my father hates me so much? You can't make someone hate someone, Kalo. They have to do that on their own." He groans rubbing at his face, before seeming to muster up the courage to face me again, he closes his eyes and shakes his head refuting my previous words.

"That's what you don't understand, Alessandra. As a Morgasian, with the ability to feed on emotions and manipulate them, we actually can make someone hate someone else. It is against our laws to do so, it is a great crime, but when your father unjustly called my brother a murderer, when he forced me to give him up for punishment in order to avoid a war, something in me just broke, I wanted your father to hurt, to feel the way I felt, knowing only pain, grief, anger, and sadness. To never feel happiness again, so I broke the law and I made him feel that way, it took years but little by little I carved away his happiness, his hope, his amusement, his awe, his love, and I replaced it with what I was feeling, anger, pain, grief, hatred, sadness.

The reason your father wanted his throne back, the reason he refused to give it up, the reason he hated you for stealing it, the reason he killed you without feeling any remorse, is because I made it so that he can't. I took that away from him so that he would know my pain, and in the end, I was happy to have done it, I felt justified, like I had finally gotten my vengeance for my brother.
