Chapter 14: My Family's Betrayal
MONTE'S POV
"You know watching them is only going to make them even more nervous," I kissed her shoulder but she ignored me. We were in her lab, watching her techs hard at work; deathly afraid to piss her off. It was amusing. "I don't care, I'll kill them and get smarter people back here," she rolled her eyes. "Look, I know you're mad because I wasn't there..." "Exactly, where the hell were you? If I didn't have such a mouth piece I could have been outnumbered."
"I was hungry," I huffed and moved from her, "I told you it was a bad idea." "Doesn't matter anyway, it's happening. Now to make up for your lack of attendance, you'll be searching and finding me a mutt."
"How do I find a mutt, please tell me." "I don't care, find random people and change them. Don't come back until you find me one." "Thank you Captain Obvious," I rolled my eyes, turning to leave when she pulled me in.
"Don't come back with any strays," she smirked, "you're mine. Remember." "How could I forget," I kissed her and left.
This was going to be fun.
*A FEW DAYS LATER*
I changed a few people; all turning to mindless zombies; no luck with a mutt yet.
I walked around a park; eyeing cute couples and families when my throat began to dry up. Great, I was hungry again.
I saw a young man running with his dog and I heard his heart; my teeth sharpening at ripping him a part. I smiled as I began tracking him down; not here. And not so public; I thought following as he got in a car after a while.
They drove to a nearby smoothie place and I groaned; could he hurry the fuck up. Why didn't I choose anyone else? It was something about the hunt that made me select people; once my eyes locked on whoever; I couldn't shake them. It turned into an obsession; I had to kill him now.
I waited until he began to unlock his door when I whisked inside and pushed him in, leaving his dog outside. Thankfully the dog found the freedom to be exciting and ran off, as the guy realized what was happening.
He grabbed a bottle of pepper spray and tried to spray me as I grabbed his hand and twisted it; breaking it with a disgusting snap. He began to cry, swinging at me as I stalked him. This was going to be easy, I thought.
I grabbed his neck and brought him to my mouth, opening my own to show him my fangs. "I've been waiting for you all night. Let's see if you're my special mutt."
I heard a whistle in the air and turned around just in time as a sharp object was hurdling at me. I threw the guy and growled.
"You're fucking with the wrong one."
"Monte?"
"Des?"
Aw shit.
She ran at me and threw me out of the house as the guy slammed his door shut and I heard him dial numbers. Fuck.
"You're impossible, you know that," I didn't look at her as I sped off.
I finally stopped at a local diner, stepping in as I scanned the location. I could find another poor defenseless human, I thought as I felt someone stand behind me.
"Are you seriously going to ignore me?" I heard her voice and that the same pang from the last time with Elena appeared. "I did run away right?" I turned, but I still couldn't look at her. I didn't know why, but I felt as if I did something would happen. Something I obviously didn't want to happen, happen.
"Can you at least look me in my eyes?" she demanded and I did. I finally looked up at her and our eyes locked.
Mixed emotions were all I saw as I stared at her and I heard her rapid heart rate. I realized that I was still hungry. "Are we done here?" I asked, trying to be nonchalant.
