Chapter 16: Beckoning My Name Once More
MAYA'S POV
"Try it again," Marcel begged and I did. Since I had replenished on fresh blood, I was a bit more focused. "She's not answering. I can't find her." "Why do you mean? What happened to the connection?" he asked.
"It's like she's dead." I paused, realizing the weight of my words. "That can't be. What can kill a mutt? She's stronger than our regular infected." "Unless she was killed by a mutt or...one of us."
"I swear if Aya killed her and sent someone off to kill her." "She wouldn't do that; she knows that Monte swore his life to her." "She's a liar," he began to get more pissed. "What do we do?"
"Are we still meeting up like sneaky devils?" Malachai appeared and we jumped. "This is not what it looks like," I tried to explain but he shook his head. "If you're trying to find Monte, he's in the dog house. Apparently, he and his little mutt had a reunion. And we all know how jealous Aya gets. Right brother?" "Where is he?" Marcel ignored his snarky remark and Malachai eyed them.
"Are you really trying to defy Aya?" "Where the fuck is he?" Marcel was growing impatient. He grabbed Malachai's' throat and pinned him to the wall. "I have had it with your fucking remarks. Understand?" "Woah, brother," Malachai started to laugh, "someone finally grew a pair. If only you defended yourself all those years ago, we wouldn't be here now would we."
"Malachai," I stepped in, "enough with the twisted jokes. How evil are you?" Malachai removed Marcel's grip from him and groaned. "You two always hated me because I am the prestigious son." "You are the forgotten child, father had more to replace you and your hideous past. Don't forget that you started our downfall because of your fucking insecurities and temper."
"Fuck you, find him yourself," he ran off and Marcel rolled his eyes. "I feel as though I am the only one with fucking sense in this family." "Well, blame years of being locked up as the mentally unstable one. It really fucks with your mind." "I am sorry sister, I am sorry I wasn't here to defend you."
"We're all sorry," I sighed, "but we need to find Monte. Maybe he knows what's going on with Des."
******************
"What do you mean you can't connect with her?" "It's like she's gone. Dead maybe." "I just saw her a few days ago." "Did Aya sent you off to kill her? Or someone else?" "Like who?" he asked. "We all know Michael is her most devoted. He's been gone for a few days as well."
"I-I don't know," he started pacing, "she told me she wasn't going to ever harm her." "You still love her?" I asked and he looked at me. "I honestly don't know how I feel. Or what I feel. I mean does love ever go away."
"No," Marcel answered, "but why are you with our sister?" "Because I'm too tainted to go elsewhere. I mean I care for Aya, I believe we all do. She has the habit of making you feel safe and harbored." "She has always been our mother. She is the eldest, meaning she is the wisest."
"I need to go," Monte began to pace, "I need to know." "Aya will not forgive you if you leave her for the mutt," I told him, grabbing his arm. "You've been in my place before. What would you do?" he turned to Marcel and I let him go.
He had us there.
"Go to her before it's too late. Get the closure you need and leave her. For loving Aya, will damage that poor girl far worse than anything in this world."
Monte stared at us and nodded, speeding off before anyone could stop him.
"Where is he off to?"
We turned to find Michael staring at us, sipping on a glass of wine.
"Off to the woman he betrayed in the first place. Make sure Aya knows," Marcel smirked, leaving us.
