❝ mind collecting some more flowers for me sweetie? ❞, a gruff voice of a man spoke as he peered over his shoulder to look at his child who was occupying them-self with a colouring book

❝ okay daddy! ❞

the little kid grabbed their basket and wandered off into the forest at their backyard

everything in the forest was oak-brown and primitive as the grass they stepped were crackly beneath their feet

the kid was in awe of the size and majesty of the trees. their eyes lit up when they spot a small field full of flowers

not a minute has passed with the kid kneeling on the ground with a bouquet of fresh flowers in hand

standing on the slightly wet grass, barefoot. their shoes discarded somewhere within the field

❝ are you seeing this mummy? ❞, they said, placing away the freshly picked flowers in the basket

the dawn chorus of birds coming from the tree in-front caught their attention. they took a step forward to watch the twittering birds and flinched away when the flock of birds flew directly above their head

seeing as there was nothing else to do, they went to retrieve their shoes with the basket in one hand and went back the same way they came

❝ back so soon? did you manage to find daddy some flowers? ❞

they nodded, handing him the basket, ❝ i got some pretty purple flowers—i even saw baby birds on top of the tall tree but i didn't mean to scare them ❞

❝ i'm sure you didn't mean that sweetie—now shall we start making some flower crowns? ❞, he asked, ruffling their hair

they pouted and swatted his hand away but nodded nonetheless. however their frown soon became a smile when their father hoisted them over his shoulder

they both twirled around and landed flat on the grass plain. getting comfortable, the little kid watched his dad weaving through the flowers

❝ so kid, what do you think of this magnificent piece of art ❞, he said, holding up the finished flower crown and placed it on his head

the kid giggled, leaning their back against his chest, ❝ you look very pretty with the flower crown daddy ❞

❝ thanks kiddo, now lets make you one aswell—what flower do you want? ❞

❝ what's mummy's favourite? ❞

the man froze mid-way of grabbing the basket causing the kid to frown. he sighed through his noise and gently run his fingers through their hair

❝ lavender rose were always her favourite flower—she never takes any flowers i give her unless its a lavender rose ❞

❝ then can you make me one with mummy's favourite? ❞, they asked, looking up at him with their big doe eyes

he bit back a smile, caressing the small child's cheek

❝ of course i can sweetie ❞

your eyes snap open, body covered in cold sweat. your heart was pounding against your chest and noticed how shaky your hands were

you looked around the room, paranoid at what you had just woken up to and gripped onto your panda plush

dad—no he was always nice to me before mummy went away

shaking away the nerves, you got out of bed and rubbed your eyes to finally be fully awake

you stumbled to the bathroom, looking at yourself through the reflection on the mirror

turning on the tap, you washed your face with cold water before heading back to bed

phil was kind enough to lend you his guest room and even set up the bed for you

there wasn't anything special about the room itself, with only some furnitures and miniature cactuses on the windowsill

the feeling of tiredness was not present due to the overwhelming feeling of fear. you didn't wish to dream of that ever again

your eyes flickered to the clock, it was still four in the morning

this is going to be a long night but atleast you had your plush to keep you company

❝ good night ❞
