"Why don't you just... fly away?"

It was raining hard as I walked into the mess hall.

"Alright. Where did Ashton go wrong in the ring today?" Gobber asked.

"I mistimed my somersault dive. It was sloppy. It threw off my reverse tumble."

"Yeah, we noticed." Ruffnut replied, sarcastically.

"No, no, you were great. That was so 'Ashton'." Snotlout said.

Gobber looked over and spotted me.

"She's right, you have to be tough on yourselves. Where did Hattie go wrong?"

"Uh, she showed up?" Ruff joked.

"She didn't get eaten." Tuff said, playing along.

"She's never where she should be." Ashton answers.

"Thank you, Ashton. You need to live and breathe this stuff. The Dragon Manual. Everything we know about every dragon we know of." Gobber exclaimed. "No attacks tonight. Study up."

"Wait, you mean, read?" Tuff whined.

"While we're still alive?" Ruff finishes.

"Why read words when you can just kill the stuff the words tell you stuff about?" Snotlout questioned.

"Oh! I've read it like, seven times. There's this water dragon that sprays boiling water at your face. And--And there's this other one that buries itself for like a week--" Fishlegs started to ramble.

" Yeah, that sounds great. See, there was a chance I was going to read that..." Tuff said.

"...But, now..." Ruff continued.

"You guys read, I'll go kill stuff." Snotlout declared, getting up and leaving.

"Oh, and there's this other one that has these spines that look like trees..." Fishlegs said, following him.

"So I guess we'll share?" Hattie said, trying to cut the awkward silence between her and the tall blonde male.

"Read it." Ashton stated, shoving the book towards Hattie.

All the teens left the mess hall except for Hattie, who turned and looked at the book.

"All mine then. Wow, okay. So, I'll see you, uh..." Hattie started before she heard the door slam behind Ashton. "tomorrow."
