May Queen's Sister

Part three

(Anna's POV)
Anna stared at her phone on her bathroom counter, the screen showed Dani's contact. It called to her to press the call button and check up on her sister. It was a routine that she has been doing everyday since they found out about what happened. Anna knew it had taken a much harder toll on Dani than herself but maybe that was because Anna was never really that close with them. Her parents had always felt as if they were some distant relatives that only had one daughter, Terri. Anna knew they didn't mean too make her feel this way, that Terri just needed more attention. Anna never resented them for this; it just caused her to care more about Dani, her twin. The one who always made time for her and treated her like a sister and not just some person that lived in her house.

" Are you alrighty Love?"
Anna turned her head and saw Pelle standing in the doorway with a look of concern on her face.

" I'm just worried about Dani" she responded.
Pelle walked up to her and took her into his arm, and started to rub circles on her back calming her down.
" She'll be alright, I promise you" he told her.

" How can you be so sure?" She asked pulling back from him, " Maybe I should just skip the party and go check up on her."
Pelle chuckled and than pulled her in for a kiss, not just a peck but a deep one that made the world stop for a second.

" You won't need to do that" he told her, " I just got off the phone with Christian and he told me she's coming with him to the party."

That statement took Anna a back for a moment as she knew Dani was not the type to go out. Especially during these past months after learning about Their parents death and Terri's suicide. She was also worried about how Mark would react, much less Josh as he knows how to at least be polite, and converse in civil conversation. Where Mark does all but say his annoyance towards the person even if they're going through a difficult time, (Anna wasn't sure he had a sympathetic bone in his body).

Later at the party...
The group was currently listening to some hipster ( Anna thinks his name is Ethan),Mark had met in one of his classes, Drabble on about his less than exciting summer plans.
" I'm fucking dreading the summer. Stuck in Boulder while my dad watches Law and Order all day." The hipster tells them.
"Yeah, man - I have to visit my parents in shit ass Tucson after we get back." Mark tells him.

Instantly, Anna internally groans as she knows that Dani has no idea about the group's trip to Sweden. It's not like she didn't tell her sister because she didn't want her to come, she was just looking forward to meeting Pelle's family and knew Dani would most likely get uncomfortable.

"Oh! Are you guys going somewhere?" Ethan the hipster asked them.

"To Sweden" Josh tells him.

"Halsingland" Pelle chips in, which earns him a pinch on his arm from Anna.
Mark also continues to dig the hole deeper by adding, " Mr. Pelle's invited us for an authentic hippie midsummer at his yodeling farm."
Anna could see the confusion stir in Dani's face, which made her feel guilt for not mentioning it to her sister earlier.

"...Oh yeah?" Dani asks
Anna watches as Christian sputters out some garbage excuse on how they were just talking about going to Sweden and hadn't actually set it in stone. Which Josh and Mark ruined for him by telling Dani that the trip was intended to take place 2 weeks from now.

Anna could feel Dani stare at her with a look of sadness, as Anna knew that she thought Anna would have at least brought it up if Christian did not. Anna decided to send Dani a quick text telling her to meet her in the bathroom so that way the could talk in private.

As soon as Dani closed the bathroom door, Anna apologized.
"I'm so sorry I didn't tell you earlier"

Dani folded her arms, her frown still preeminent, "Why didn't you?"

"I just didn't know how to bring it up" Anna told her, "I mean you're still grieving and I was already feeling nervous since I'm going to be meeting Pelle's family and now that I'm saying this allowed I'm feeling more like a dick."

Dani chuckled, "You're not a dick"

"You should come!"

That took Dani a back, "What?!"

"You should come with us" Anna exclaimed, "I know Pelle wouldn't mind and it could be an amazing experience!"

"But what about Mark and Josh? What about Christian? I don't want him to feel like I'm smothering even more than I already do!"

"First off, don't give two fucks about what Mark and Josh think it's not their home we're visiting" Anna tells her, "And secondly, you don't smother Christian. Look I know he's my friend but you're my sister and I would rather you come on this trip if it comes down between only one of you going."

Dani clutches her arms even tighter, making them turn a soft shade of red, "I don't know..."
Anna signs and grabs a hold of Dani's hands, "Look if this is really bugging you talk to Christian about it"
That idea seems to calm Dani down a bit and nods her head.

Anna gives Dani one last hug before they leave the bathroom, trying to ignore the ominous feeling that she has telling her something is going to go wrong.
