Calix pov
Sneaking out of the castle was the hard part especially when there are guards everywhere. I managed to stay out of sight of any guards as well as Alberto.
We made our way to the back of the castle where there weren't as many guards patrolling. This was always the hard part of trying to escape.
Instead of patrolling the grounds the guards were laughing and having fun. They looked like they were drunk.
This was a usual thing which many others didn't know and it always came in as an advantage to escape all these years to see Dara.
Alberto always covered for me during my escapes to make sure I was not caught.
"I'll be back before 03:00 am" I whispered to him to which he responded with a nod.
He watched as I made my way over to some bushes that were near the fence. I slowly pull the bushes to the corner revealing a slightly large hole in the fence.
At the other end of the fence was surrounded by thick bushes so no one can see when I exit.
I quickly made my way through making sure that i placed the bushes where they were before, i was now standing on the other side of fence between the thick bushes.
I carefully made my way away from the body guards and into the forest behind the castle. The forest was not that deep and I could easily find my way back.
At the end of the forest there is a road that leads straight to the village. It took me about half an hour to reach there.
The village was peaceful during the nights. Instead of going to Dara's home I made my way towards the river where we would always reach each other.
Since my father has been more strict when it comes to my role at the kingdom I haven't had much free time to visit her.
I've sent letters and messages with Alberto before but he would always return and tell me how sad she was when I couldn't meet her.
Today is going to be the first time in two weeks I will be seeing her again. I just hope she isn't too angry at me.
As I made my way down the dirt road the river came into view.
Instantly a smile made its way onto my face.
The river truly looked majestic at nights. The moon reflects onto the river making it glitter. The stars made it look perfect. It almost looks too perfect to be real.
There, under the tree that was near the river. Her soft black hair blew with the wind. Her red blanket that she made sat on her lap. Her chocolate brown eyes skimmed through the pages of the book she's reading. A small basket was placed next to her. If only she knew how heavenly she looked.
I quickly made my way up to her. She heard my footsteps approaching and looks up from her book. A soft smile made its way to her face before turning into a frown.
"Heyy" I dragged out nervously with a smile. She looks at me without saying a word before looking back into her book.
"I'm sorry about not being able to see to the past nights," I said softly as I made my way to sit next to her. She completely ignores me and focuses her attention on her book.
"Dara" I said as I gave her a small nudge with still no response.
"Fine if you don't want to talk to me I'll just leave" I said as I pretended to be annoyed and stand up to leave.
Her eyes snapped away from her book and focused of me. Tears starting to pool at the corner of eyes.
I sat back down and hugged her to my chest.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you cry" I said as I wiped her tears with my thumb.
"I'm sorry, it's just that I have missed you so much and you never came to see me. I thought you didn't want to be see me anymore" she sobbed into my chest.
" I know I haven't been able to see you much and I'm sorry about that but my father is being more strict these days. I hardly even get time to myself and the time I do get I use it to rest. I'm training and working hard to be the next king. It's not easy. I'm sorry I made you doubt our friendship. I should have told you the truth when I wrote the letters but I know you get worried easily when I speak about my father , that's why I never mentioned anything.
" I want you to know no matter how many days, months or even years passed and we haven't seen each other you'll still be my best friend. Actually you're the only friend I have and I love you and nothing is going to change that." I said with a smile.
She looked at me shocked written all over her face. Suddenly she jumps into my arms and hugs me once more, not that I'm complaining though. I love her hugs. They are warm and comfortable.
"I love you too and you'll always be my best friend" she says into my neck. She sat on my lap with her hands around my neck. I felt my body shiver at her words. I hugged her once more, this time a little too long.
"By the way, I got you a gift," I whispered to her. She quickly pulls aways from her hug.
"Really let me see" she beems excitedly with a smile.
I nervously reached into the cloak and pulled out the small box and handed it to her.
"Open it" i said with a smile as I leaned back against the tree waiting to see her reaction. She gently removes the top before gasping at the sight of the silver necklace.
" It's beautiful" she whispers as her fingers traced the pendent.
It was small silver heart.
"Here let me help you put it on, '' I said as I collected it from her. I gently took the necklace out of the small box before placing her hair on one side of her shoulder. I leaned closer trying to clasp the chain before placing her back back the way it was.
"There, you look beautiful" I said with a smile looking at the necklace.
"Thank you" she says with a smile admiring her gift.
Her face lights up as if she remembered something.
"I made you your favorite" she says excitedly as she hops off my lap and makes her way to the basket.
She pulls out a big bowl of apple pie. My mouth starts to water instantly just at looking at it
She giggles at my reaction and hands it to me with a spoon. I didn't even wait for her to taste it. I began as soon as it was in my hands.
The rest of the night we spent laughing and catching up with my head on her lap and her massaging my scalp with her fingers while enjoying each other's presence.
