  Calix

After my shower, I put on some fresh clothes and made my way down to the kitchen to get breakfast. As I made my way down the stairs I heard the faint laughs coming from the dining room. I entered the room to see bright smiles planted on their faces as they turned towards me.

"Good morning" I muttered silently walking towards the table taking a seat opposite the princess. They quickly greeted me back with a smile. Everyone seemed extra happy for some reason. Maybe it's because of the ball. The kingdom hasn't had a ball since the last time the Emperor and Empress visited. That was about two years ago. I wonder if they're visiting, maybe that's the reason why father is throwing a ball.

The maids quickly served my food and I began to eat. I then remembered I have to visit the tailors today. It's not like I have to leave the palace to visit them since we have our tailors staying in the palace which reminds me, why do I have to even take the princess? She could go by herself. I'm sure one of the maids could guide her to the trailers tailors headquarters.

My thoughts were soon interrupted by my father's voice.

"Your grandparents will be visiting in three days," my father said as his eyes met mine. "I expect you to be more present when they are here since you have hardly been present these past couple of days."

I nodded and returned to eating.

I took a sip of some water before speaking. "Is that the reason you're throwing the ball?" I asked

"No there's another reason but that will be revealed at the ball" he answered before digging back into his food.

I then realized the table had become quiet. I looked around to see everyone had their eyes focused on us. My gaze landed on Roseline's but she quickly looked down at her food.

"After breakfast I want the two of you to visit the tailors to sort out your outfits." He said motioning to the two of us. My eyes once again lifted to meet hers. This time I was the one to look away. We both nodded and resumed what we were doing. I grabbed the glass of water gulped it down quickly before making my way up from the chair.

"Where are you going?" Father asked me, making everyone turn their attention towards me.

"To the tailors," I said plainly

"Aren't you going to wait for the princess?" He asked with a serious expression

"No" I responded

The noise of the metallic fork hitting the plate made everyone jump in surprise. We turned our heads to the source of the house to see it was Roseline who dropped the fork. Her lips were slightly parted as I met her gaze. Her father quickly cleared his throat to avert the attention away from her. Her cheeks redden as she realizes what just happened before she quickly apologizes in embarrassment.

A small grin made its way onto my lips but it quickly disappeared as soon as it came.

"The Princess seems a little too busy right now. She can visit them when she's finished " I said to my father

"I'm finished" she shouted from her chair as she quickly made her way to stand up knocking over the glass of water onto the table.

She instantly apologizes once again trying to clean up the mess she made. At this point, she was red as the apple that was sitting in the basket in front of her.

The maids quickly came and helped clean the mess up since everyone had finished eating by now. She turned her gaze to her mother but her mother shook her head in disappointment. Her father looked at her with a serious expression causing her to look away in embarrassment.

"Since everyone is finished now, you both should get going," father said before walking out of the kitchen. Mother followed him along with Roseline's parents behind her.

It was just the two of us alone in the dining room along with the maids that were cleaning up.

I mentally sigh before I begin to walk out of the room. I looked back to see her still standing in the same position.

"Not this shit again," I cursed under my breath before turning around to face her.

"Do I need to start telling you to follow me or what?" I asked plainly

She quickly shakes her head before running up to me.

"Sorry" she whispers lowly

I rolled my eyes at her already beginning to feel annoyed by her before making my way to the tailors. The tailors usually stay at the back of the palace which means I have to listen to her make small talk for a while.

"So I didn't see you last night. Where were you?" She asked with a smile

"None of your concern" I responded blankly

"Why are you so mean?" she shouts

I stopped in my tracks, surprised by her outburst.

"All I have been trying to do since I came here was to be your friend and here you are being mean" she exclaims

I stood there waiting patiently for her to finish her outburst so I could talk. When she finishes, I slowly walk up towards her as she slowly backs away from me until her back hits a wall. She stood there dumbfounded as I caged her between my arms. I leaned forward making sure to get closer to her ear.

"Get this in that little head of yours. I do not want to be your friend. I do not want your kindness. God knows why you're here but as soon as your parents are finished you're going to leave. So I suggest that you stop with these questions and just go along with what my father says." I whispered throatily before lifting my head to meet her ocean colored orbs

"Is that why you don't want to be my friend because you're afraid I'll leave?" she asked quietly.

I hesitated before responding to her question. Is that the real reason why I don't want to become friends with her?

No, it's because she's an annoying little princess who's the apple of her parents' eyes who gets everything she wants. Yes, that's the reason why I don't want to be her friend, I told myself.

"No" I responded

"I would be happier the day you do leave, trust me. Until then I'm stuck with you. That doesn't mean I want to be your friend."

Her expression quickly changed into a sad one and for some reason, I felt guilty for saying that to her. She quickly looked away from me which made me realize that I had my hand caging her between the wall and myself.

I quickly moved my hands away and backed away from her. As the seconds ticked by it started to become awkward and I started to feel even guiltier. I felt as if I should apologize to her and I did.

"I'm sorry," I said quietly, not sure if she heard me.

She nodded and gave a fake smile before returning to her gloomy expression.

"We should get going," I said and began to walk, not sure if she was walking behind me.
