A gun strapped to his belt. A hat pulled low over his face. A badge pinned tightly on his leather vest. A soul that was determined to bring justice to the case. This case was his sister's death. This person? His name was Jake.
Jake was a lanky boy who'd dropped out of school to support his family. He took a job as a low-ranking cop. It suited him. His sister, Clarissa, had just died in Mt. Ebott by the hands of monsters. He was angry, as most should be.
He stalked up the mountain as the dark grey clouds above sprinkled rain on his shoulders. He hurried up the mountain his boots squelching in the muddy trail. He made his way to a large hole in a dimly light cave. A lantern sat by a rock. Clarissa had been here.
Knowing her, he'd come to the conclusion that her recklessness either caused her to fall down the hole or she jumped down. Jake sucked in a harsh breath. He pulled the collar of his shirt and pulled a rope out of his satchel. He tied the rope to a large boulder. He carefully made his way down the chasm until he landed on a chipped marble pillar. He looked down and saw a patch of buttercup flowers. He gulped.
He was afraid. Afraid of heights. Deathly afraid.
He took a deep breath. "Clarissa, you idiot. What are you getting me into...?" Jake muttered as he shut his eyes and jumped onto the patch of flowers.
"Hello?"
"Jake?"
"Are you there?"
"Are we connected?"
"Jake..."
"Get up!"
"You have to bring justice!"
"You must!"
"Wait-!"
Falling...
Harder...
Faster...
"JAKE!!"
Jake's eyes flew open. He found himself hyperventilating and sweating in a bed. Was this all just a bad dream? Was Clarissa-? Jake threw himself out of bed and found out...this wasn't his home. This was Home.*
*Did you see what I did there?
