Chapter 7

❝ Comfort and the Pain of Goodbyes❞

Y/N made it back quickly to Koyuki. She saw the silver-haired woman walking around restlessly on the front of the house and immediately snapped her neck towards Y/N after the latter accidentally trip and fell flat in her face. Completely breaking the mask in the process. Despite, Koyuki's unusual strictness to not breaking her masks, she couldn't care any less at that moment and hurriedly ran over to hug Y/N. Mumbling praises to her and how she was so happy.

"You..d-did a won-derful..j-job Y/N.."

Y/N couldn't help but cry as well. She let out tears because of the foreign feeling of warmth. Something that she missed so much.

The Next Ten Days

The contestants were given a time of fourteen days until their swords and uniforms were given to them. Until then, they could spend their time with their masters. Today, however, despite it not being the day when Y/N gets her equipment, there was an important event that Koyuki remembered.

"Y/N-chan~~ Wear this blindfold okay? I'll be back." Y/N was confused but still followed Koyuki's instructions without question.

After a while, she heard faint laughter of children coming her way. Accompanied by the deep voice of a man and Koyuki's voice.

"Alright! You can take it off now Y/N!"

Y/N took off her blindfold and saw Koyuki with two children holding a basket of sweets. Beside them was a..familiar swordsmith..without his mask on. The girl blinked.

HAGANEZUKA?!

The man stared at Y/N with a frown.

"That's the girl? Wow, are you sure you didn't send another contestant to take her place in the Selection?" He asked sarcastically to Koyuki.

Koyuki lightly slapped his shoulder. Haganezuka put away Koyuki's hand and run his hand through his hair, looking stressed.

"That is no way to talk about my disciple! Also, she's gonna be part of our family now, Hotaru!" Y/N's mouth went agape at Koyuki's statement.

I'm their child now? Also-- first name basis? Are they relatives or--

"You are incredibly lucky that I, as your cousin, still tolerate your antics, otherwise I'd have thrown you to the other side of the forest." Haganezuka mumbled.

I-- Why am I even surprised?

"Ignore Hotaru~~ today's your birthday Y/N! I wanted you to have a great day today, so I brought over my family!" Koyuki beamed.

Just as she finished, she was hugged by a little girl and boy who looked about the age of nine. Apparently the girl's name was Kiyo and the boy's name was Kanna. They both had Koyuki's eyes and face meanwhile their hair seemed like Haganezuka's hairstyle, but cleaner. They both seemed energetic too.

The four of them spent the whole day together. Y/N even made flower crowns for the two children and played with them. Haganezuka, however, barely talked with Y/N. She could understand why but she felt bad since he was after all a serious person and he's probably mad. Why? Because imagine being a close relative of someone and then suddenly having to take in the fact that your cousin had taken in an orphan who came out of nowhere.
