" Insanity Has Overcome Humanity "
Just as the crow expected, Y/N was easily able to complete her first mission. However, that was expected because the first few missions are easy, however, the next ones would be harder.
She was instructed by her crow to travel to a town where children would mysteriously disappear at night. The rumours were saying that maybe someone was offering up the children to a gruesome ritual. Multiple other Slayers had been sent here but never returned. After hearing the rumours from her crow, she knew very well that this was a demon's doing.
After she got to the destination, she found out that it was actually a big town. The locals, however, were cold to her. Cold to any outsiders actually. Y/N felt awkward at the lonely atmosphere surrounding the place. However, she understood why. Imagine living in a town where children are going missing and you can still smile and be happy-go-lucky around. Deciding to take a small snack break from travelling, she found a small shop and went inside.
There were very few people inside. Y/N took a seat near the counter and scanned the menu. A young woman who seemed to be a waitress came over to her and took her order.
"Can I have three Sakura Dango please? Oh and a cup green tea?" The h/c haired girl asked politely. The waitress paused. She seemed to examine the girl's outfit before nodding her head.
After a minute, she was served her snacks. She thanked the waitress as she proceeded to munch on her yummy snacks. As she was eating however, the waitress from earlier approached her.
"May I ask if you're part of a certain organization, ms?" She sounded worried but Y/N felt conflicted on whether she should tell her or not.
"Yes..Which organization do you think I'm a part of?"
"Could it be..The Demon Slayer Corps?" She whispered the last part. The girl's e/c eyes widened. She then toned down her surprise as she remembered that there are a select few civilians who knew about demons and demon slayers. Saburo from Tanjirou's hometown was an example.
Y/N faced the waitress with a serious manner as she gulped down her green tea and finished eating her dango.
"How about we talk in a more private place?"
The two went inside a room in the back of the shop where the waitress lived. They both sat down and started to discuss about her job.
"I'll assume you already know about my job so I'll get straight to the point. Can you tell me everything that seemed suspicious to you regarding the missing children?" The waitress fiddled with her thumb before answering.
"To Be honest, I think the most suspicious is the orphanage at the top of our mountain. At the top, there's the orphanage and a shrine to which we go to for praying. Most of the children who went missing are from the orphanage. The rest are the children who went up to pray at the shrine. I never told anyone about this otherwise I'd get stoned to death.." She cried.
"S-stoned to death?" Y/N asked, bewildered by what kind of rules this town had. The woman wiped away her tears and continued.
"This town is heavily religious some of our rules have something to do with relationships. For example, if someone was accusing somebody with a crime but the person was found to be innocent, the one who accused would be stoned to death. Some will be given up to the shrine to be killed. To the cheif's eyes, this was their way of being cleansed of a sin."
