"Are we actually doing this?"

I look up at to find Max staring back at me with a scowl. I tuck my phone away, painfully aware that Katie was in the living room probably checking the windows like a freak pretend mum she is with Mason probably just trying to get her to stop being paranoid and leave.

He came with Max, which resulted in him staying at the kitchen counter, where I was, ready as I'll ever be, just scrolling through my phone.

"What?"

Max raised a brow, eyeing the doorway to the living room. "Us hanging out with the guys just because it's the holidays? Come on, we can pretend that we're not interested and skip it."

I could hear Katie finishing up and chatting with Mason. "No, I actually do want to spend some time with my friends. Plus, Katie won't buy it. She's already suspicious enough that I've been sneaking off to places without her."

Max groaned.

It wasn't a surprise to me after seeing it a few times. The first time, it didn't catch me by surprise to see that Max did have different lots of facial expressions. Then, I started to want to see it more, the weird side of me taking over, making me just want to runaway to someplace with Max.

"But I want to spend time with you..."

I ignored him. "You shouldn't be talking to me."

Katie and Mason walked over, finally done with checking if the house is locked and protected. "Wow, you guys are having a conversation without Alan ripping you're head off," she nodded at Max. "Nice job."

I rolled my eyes. "We survived the project remember?"

She gasp, laughing along with her boyfriend. "Oh yeah, the one the whole school talked about the last week of school because of how romantic you guys were?"

Cue another eye roll.

Max clicked his tongue, not commenting. But I saw the small smile under his hidden poker face.

"Not cool man," I glared at Mason. "Bros before hoes remember?"

That earned me a slap.

"That's your sister that you just called a hoe."

Katie pulled her boyfriend, continuing his comment. "And it's the same sister that slapped him."

I rubbed my sore face, pouting at Max to make sure he knew that I expected him to come to the rescue or something but he couldn't anyways. But whatever. That's how relationships worked... I think.

Though, we're not in a relationship, or something.

No, I actually didn't know where we stood.

We went on a few dates. The last time Max mentioned the B word, it was the first time at the rooftop at school. We never came across it after and most of the places we had dates, almost all of them, were secluded places so there's wasn't a situation were someone called us the B word.

Not that I told him about what I've been thinking.

No way.

"Let's get there before Brian starts to go hulk at the place."

What Max said got the four of us moving. When Katie decided to ride with Mason, Max automatically got in mine, commenting that he didn't want to third wheel and that we could get along now, after the project.
