Eliza sighed, trying to type up a report for her journalism class. She was getting nowhere. Frustrated, she shut the laptop with a huff, leaning back into her recliner. This caught the attention of her boyfriend Alexander, who was sitting on a beanbag in the corner of the dorm reading a book that, to Eliza, seemed impossibly large.

“Everything alright, Betsey?” He asked, placing his bookmark in his book and looking at his upset partner.

Eliza shook her head, crossing her arms. “This stupid report is confusing me so much! And the fact that the deadline is so soon is not helping.” She said, placing her laptop on the coffee table next to her. “I don’t know how I’m gonna do it. I’m not you, Aria or Aaron...I’m just me.” She said, her voice wavering slightly at the end. Eliza stayed quiet for a moment before speaking again, her voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t think I’m cut out for journalism, Alex.” She said, wiping at her eyes to get rid of the newly formed tears in her eyes.

Alexander frowned. He always hated how much Eliza got down on herself, it broke his heart. In his eyes, his Betsey was perfect! He wished she could see herself through his eyes. “Betsey...you know that’s not true.” He said softly, his eyebrows furrowing at her words.

Eliza’s grip on her arms tightened. “It is true, though. I’m just not smart enough for this! I can’t get a simple report right? How pathetic is that?” She said, more tears finding their way down her face.

Alexander stood up and came over to Eliza. “Eliza, you are more than capable of this, I know it! We all have our struggles, sure, but that’s normal! We just have to work past them.” He said, taking Eliza’s hand gently. “How about you take a break? You clearly need to get your mind off of it. We could go do something, if you’d like.” He suggested, a gentle smile gracing his features.

Eliza blinked, before squinting her eyes. “Did the Alexander Hamilton, notorious for pulling all-nighters for assignments weeks in advance and drinking unholy amounts of coffee to stay awake studying for exams that won’t happen for months, tell me to take a break?” She said, a mocking tone evident in her voice.

Alexander’s face flushed in embarrassment. “W-Well- hey! I’m just trying to help Betsey!” He said, his mind scrambling to find an excuse, making Eliza giggle.

“I know Alex, and I really appreciate it.” She said, giving her boyfriend’s hand a gentle squeeze before standing up from the recliner. “How does ice cream sound?” She suggested. “Angie recommended this really cool place downtown! I believe it’s called...Rocky Road Revolutionaries? Apparently it’s realllyyy good!”

Alexander smiled. “Sounds perfect.”

And so the pair went to the ice cream parlor, ordering their ice cream. Eliza ordered caramel swirl while Alexander ordered huckleberry. To say their orders made sense would be an understatement.
Eliza and Alexander sat down in a booth, happily chatting away. Well, Alexander was mostly complaining about Thomas Jefferson while Eliza comforted him about the situation.
“Hold on Betsey.” Alexander said, making Eliza stop.

“Hmm?” She hummed, confused.

“You have something on your face.” He said, placing his hand under Eliza’s chin.

“Oh! I didn’t realize I was being so mess-” Eliza started to say before being cut off by a deep kiss, which she immediately melted into.

When Alexander pulled back, he had a big smirk on his face. “It was me, my dear.” He said in a low voice before bursting into laughter at Eliza’s face.
Her light brown eyes were wide, and her whole face was a bright scarlet in color. “O-Oh.” She stuttered, embarrassed as Alexander kissed her cheek.
“You’re adorable, you know that right?” He said through his still persisting laughter, his smile bright. It made Eliza’s heart skip a beat.
“I didn’t think my face was a mirror, Alex.” Eliza said softly, a small smile on her face as she giggled.

“No, no. Your face is much better.” Alexander said, his grin not faltering for a moment.

Eliza sighed dreamily. “I think your everything is better. She whispered, kissing Alexander’s nose.

It was Alexander’s turn to be flustered as a light blush dusted across his face. “You have no idea what you do to me, Betsey.” He said with a small smile.
“I think I have a general idea. I make you very happy, I make sure you don't kill anyone or yourself, I make sure you get adequate sleep- I'm basically your mother." Eliza teased, sticking her tongue out as she smiled.

Alexander chuckled. "Yeah, yeah, those too." He said standing up and taking the pair's trash and throwing it away before coming back and gently taking Eliza's hand as they walked out of the ice cream parlor. "Buuut, I can think of something else." He said with a grin.

Eliza tilted her head, confused. "What is it?"

Alexander placed his hands on his girlfriend's hips before lifting her up and spinning her around, making her break out into laughter. Once he placed her down, he pressed his forehead against hers, a gentle but loving look in his eyes. "You reminded me how it feels to love and just how amazing it is." He said softly, his eyes gleaming with overwhelming love.

Eliza smiled softly. "I love you Alexander." She whispered.

Alexander backed up just slightly so he could kiss Eliza's forehead. "I love you too Betsey."
